A Heart that Prays for Others
Rev. Tetteh-Annor Larbi | Saturday, October 3, 2026 | Romans 10:1

KEY VERSE: “Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.”_ — Romans 10:1 (KJV)
MESSAGE:
Paul opens this chapter by expressing his longing for Israel’s salvation. Many of his own people had opposed him, questioned his message, and even sought his harm, yet his heart’s desire for them remained their salvation. His compassion outlasted their rejection. A heart shaped by grace learns to care deeply for people who are far from God, even when relating to them becomes difficult.
Notice that Paul’s desire becomes prayer. He takes his concern to God, who alone can save. Prayer for the lost is an act of faith that salvation is God’s work, and an act of love that refuses to give up on people. It belongs alongside our conversations and invitations from the beginning. When people resist our witness, we can continue bringing them before God.
There is also a lesson in whom Paul prays for. His burden embraces his own people, including those who had opposed him. The people who frustrate us may also need our patient intercession. You may have grown tired of praying for a loved one who shows little interest in Christ. Bring that weariness to God and ask Him to renew your concern for their salvation. A heart shaped by the Gospel learns to love its opponents and pray for their good.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Write down the names of loved ones who have yet to trust Christ. Pray for them by name each day this week, asking God to open their hearts to the Gospel and deepen your love for them. Include anyone who has hurt or opposed you because of your faith.
PRAYER:
Lord, give me Paul’s heart. Where I have grown tired or discouraged, renew my longing for those who do not know You. Save them and use me however You see fit. For Your dear name’s sake. Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING. SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

DAILY word study: PRAY
What makes Paul’s prayer in Romans 10:1 so specific?
The word “prayer” translates the Greek δέησις, transliterated deēsis. It means a petition, entreaty, or supplication arising from a need. It describes asking for help in a particular matter.
Paul names the need clearly: Israel’s salvation. His request has a direction, “to God”; a people, “for Israel”; and a purpose, “that they might be saved.”
This gives us a fresh insight into intercession. We can bring another person’s spiritual need before God even while that person remains unaware of it or resists the Gospel. Paul recognises Israel’s need and makes it his own concern in prayer.
Reflect on This:
How could your prayers for someone who has yet to trust Christ become more specific?
