A Word for Resistant Hearts

KEY VERSE: “Therefore let it be known to you that the salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it!” (Acts 28:28, NKJV)
MESSAGE:
In Acts 28:25–29, after some accepted Paul’s message and others rejected it, Paul responded by quoting the prophet Isaiah. He spoke of people who hear without understanding and see without perceiving. His words pointed to a deeper spiritual problem. The message had been clearly presented, yet many remained resistant because their hearts had become dull and closed to God’s voice.
This passage reminds us that spiritual resistance often begins in the heart. A person may hear sermons, read Scripture, and understand biblical ideas, yet remain unmoved before God. Pride, unbelief, stubbornness, and attachment to sin can keep the heart from responding to the Word. God desires attentive ears and receptive hearts that are willing to repent, believe, and obey.
Paul’s warning also calls believers today to self-examination. It is possible to become familiar with spiritual things while gradually losing sensitivity to God’s voice. We must continually ask God to soften our hearts, remove spiritual dullness, and keep us open to His correction and leading.
A responsive heart is fertile ground for transformation, healing, and deeper fellowship with God. The salvation of God is to be received with humility, faith, and obedience. We must guard our hearts from neglect, pride, and resistance, and remain ready to hear and obey the Word of the Lord.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
A receptive heart is essential for spiritual growth. Ask God for a heart that listens, believes, repents, and obeys. Pay attention when His Word corrects you and respond with humility.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, keep my heart sensitive to Your voice. Help me to hear You clearly and follow Your Word in obedience. Remove every dullness from my heart and make me receptive to Your correction and leading. For Your dear Name’s sake, Amen.

DAILY word study: HEAR
Today’s word is “hear.”
In Acts 28:28, Paul says, “The salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it.”
The Greek word translated “hear” is akousontai, from akouō. It means to hear, listen to, understand, or pay attention to what is spoken.
In this passage, hearing means more than sound entering the ear. Paul had already spoken to people who heard the message without receiving it. Their ears heard words, but their hearts resisted God’s voice.
When Paul says the Gentiles “will hear it,” he points to a receptive response to the salvation of God. The Gospel would continue to move forward. Hearts that were open would receive the message, believe, and respond.
Reflect on this:
Ask God for a hearing heart. Do not only hear sermons, songs, prayers, and Scripture readings. Receive God’s Word with humility. When the Lord speaks through His Word, respond with faith, repentance, and obedience.
