Aligning Our Will With God's Will

Rev. Tetteh-Annor Larbi | August 5, 2024 | John 15:7

KEY VERSE:

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. John 15:7 (NIV)

MESSAGE:

In today’s devotion, there is a promise by Jesus that if we remain in Him and His words remain in us, we can ask whatever we wish, and it will be done for us. This reflective statement highlights the importance of aligning our will with God's will. To remain in Christ means to maintain a close, intimate relationship with Him, where His teachings and truths deeply influence our thoughts, desires, and actions. When His words are rooted in us, our prayers begin to reflect His heart and purposes, rather than our selfish ambitions.

This alignment of our will with God's will transforms our prayer life. As we immerse ourselves in Scripture and allow it to shape our understanding, our desires begin to align with God's desires. We start to pray for things that are in accordance with His will—prayers for wisdom, compassion, justice, and the advancement of His kingdom. When our prayers are aligned with God's purposes, we can have confidence that He will answer them. This is not a promise that God will fulfil every personal wish we have, but rather that when we seek His will, our prayers will be powerful and effective.

The key to experiencing the fulfilment of John 15:7 lies in our commitment to remain in Christ and let His words remain in us. This requires a disciplined prayer life, Bible study, and obedience to God's commands. As we grow in our relationship with Jesus, our will becomes increasingly aligned with His. Our hearts begin to beat in sync with His, and our lives become a reflection of His love and purpose. Let us strive to abide in Christ and let His words shape our desires, trusting that as we do so, our prayers will align with His will and be powerfully answered for His glory.

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

Have you been praying for something and you are not seeing the results? Check if your will is properly aligned to His will. Does it seem like your prayers are not being answered? Ask yourself if you are remaining in Him and He in you. Put your will in alignment with God’s will.

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, I yield my will to your control and direction. Guide me to be in alignment with your will and purpose, so I can bear fruit that will please you. For your dear name’s sake. Amen.

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

DAILY word study: WORDS REMAIN The phrase "words remain" in the original Greek text uses the term "ῥήματα" (rhēmata), which refers to spoken words or sayings. The verb "μένω" (menō) means to remain, abide, stay, or continue. Thus, "words remain" conveys the idea of Jesus' teachings dwelling or continuing to live within the believer. "Remaining" suggests a continual, dynamic relationship that influences one's actions and desires. Jesus' words "remaining" in believers indicate that His teachings and commandments should deeply influence their thoughts, values, and decisions. This abiding presence of His words guides believers to align their will with God's will, ensuring their requests and actions reflect divine intentions.: Reflections: The concept of Jesus' words remaining in us challenges us to consider how deeply we engage with and live out His teachings. It invites us to introspect on the extent to which our thoughts, desires, and actions reflect His will. In what ways can I cultivate a deeper abiding of Jesus' words in my life to ensure my desires and prayers align with God's will?
