Baptised into His Death

Rev. Charles Oppong-Poku | Monday, August 3, 2026 | Romans 6:3

KEY VERSE: “Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptised into Christ Jesus were baptised into his death?” — Romans 6:3 NIV

MESSAGE:

Having established that God’s grace is never a licence to sin, Paul now explains why believers cannot continue living under sin’s dominion. Through faith, every believer is united with Jesus Christ. Romans 6:3 presents baptism as a clear declaration of this new relationship with Him.

Water baptism publicly testifies that the believer has trusted in Christ and has been united with Him in His death, burial, and resurrection. It declares that the old life under sin’s control has been surrendered and that a new identity has begun in Christ. Baptism therefore points to a spiritual reality that God has already established through faith.

Christ died for us, and through faith we receive the saving benefits of His death. His sacrifice dealt with the penalty of sin and broke its controlling power over those who belong to Him. Temptation may still arise, yet sin no longer holds rightful authority over the believer. We now belong to Jesus Christ and live under His lordship.

This union with Christ calls us to live according to our new identity. Our choices, habits, relationships, and attitudes should reflect the One to whom we belong. We draw strength from the victory Christ has already secured and depend on the Holy Spirit as we resist sin and walk in obedience. Our baptism should remain a daily reminder that our lives now belong fully to Christ.

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

Reflect on what your baptism declares about your relationship with Jesus Christ. Identify one habit or attitude that does not agree with your new identity in Him. Bring it honestly before God, depend on the Holy Spirit, and take one practical step of obedience today. Live in a way that honours the confession you made through baptism.

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, thank You for uniting me with Jesus Christ through faith. Thank You that His death has broken the dominion of sin over my life. Help me remember what my baptism declares and give me strength through the Holy Spirit to reject old patterns and walk in obedience. May my life reflect my new identity in Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

The 365 DAILY BIBLE READING

DAILY word study: KNOW The word “know” comes from the Greek agnoeō, which means “to be unaware,” “to lack understanding,” or “to fail to recognise.”

Paul asks, “Don’t you know?” because believers should understand the spiritual meaning of their baptism. Baptism declares that we have been identified with Jesus Christ in His death. This knowledge should shape our identity, choices, habits, and obedience. Remembering what Christ has done helps us live consistently with the confession we made through baptism.

Reflect on this:

What truth about your identity in Christ do you need to remember and practise today?
