Be Care of the Night of Sin
Rev. Tse Amable | July 13, 2024 | John 13:18-30
KEY VERSE:
“As soon as Judas had taken the bread, HE WENT OUT. AND IT WAS NIGHT.” John 13:30 (NIV)
MESSAGE:
The above scripture marks the beginning of the end of Judas Iscariot. Note that when he walked out from the fellowship with Jesus Christ and his colleague apostles, the Bible says “IT WAS NIGHT”.
“NIGHT” is that period of the day when wicked deeds take place. Job said, “Do not long for the night, to drag people away from their homes” (Job 36:20). Again, he said, “When daylight is gone, the murderer rises up and kills the poor and needy; in the night he steals forth like a thief” (Job 24:14). Jesus Christ said “it is when a man walks by night that he stumbles, for he has no light” (John 11:10). Again, Jesus Christ said “As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work” (John 9:4). Night represents the darkest part of the life of a person and the end of life.
It is not surprising that when Judas Iscariot walked away from Jesus Christ who is “the true light that gives light to every man” (John 1:9), he walked into the darkness of the night of sin.
The Bible says “You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. .... But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet” (1 Thessalonians 5:5-9).
If you walk away from Jesus Christ, you are walking into your night because there will be no light to guide your feet and to direct your path.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
How is your fellowship with the Lord through the reading, studying and meditation of the word? How is your prayer life? Are you skipping church services and meetings? If you are walking away from the presence of the Lord, you may be walking into your night of sin which will lead you to a premature end.
PRAYER:
Lord, I come to you. I’ve come to know the weaknesses that I see in me. Do your work of redemption on my wandering heart. Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord to the Cross of Calvary. Never let me walk away from you into the night of sin and death. Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!
DAILY word study: NIGHT
The Greek word for "night" is "νύξ" (nyx), which literally means the period of darkness between sunset and sunrise. In biblical literature, "night" often carries symbolic meaning, representing spiritual darkness, evil, and separation from God's light.
The phrase "it was night" in John 13:30 carries a deeper significance. This moment marks the transition from Jesus' fellowship with His disciples to the betrayal leading to His arrest. The night symbolizes the moral and spiritual darkness of Judas' actions, highlighting the gravity of his betrayal. The imagery of night in this context serves as a warning about the consequences of stepping away from Jesus, the Light of the World, into spiritual darkness. It reminds believers to remain vigilant and avoid the "night" of sin that leads to spiritual blindness and separation from God.
Reflections:
How can you stay vigilant against the "night" of sin in your own life, ensuring you walk in the light of Christ?
