Christ Died at the Appointed Time

Rev. Tetteh-Annor Larbi | Friday, July 17, 2026 | Romans 5:6–8

KEY VERSE: “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.” (Romans 5:6, NKJV)

MESSAGE:

Romans 5:5 tells us that God has poured His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. Paul now directs us to the clearest historical demonstration of that love. While humanity remained spiritually helpless and unable to secure salvation, Christ died at the time appointed within God’s redemptive plan. God acted with purpose and grace when we had no power to rescue ourselves.

Christ died for the ungodly. This word describes people who live without reverence for God and lack any moral claim to His favour. Religious effort, good intentions, and personal discipline could not remove sin or restore fellowship with God. Our salvation began with God’s initiative. He sent His Son to bear the judgment our sins deserved and open the way for us to receive forgiveness, reconciliation, and new life.

This truth calls us to depend fully on Christ and respond with gratitude. The God who acted for us while we were helpless continues to deserve our trust. His grace also changes how we view others. No person is beyond the reach of the gospel. We can pray for those who seem far from God, speak about Christ with compassion, and remember that every believer stands by grace.

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

Acknowledge your complete dependence on Christ for salvation. Release every attempt to earn God’s acceptance through religious performance or good works. Thank Him for dying for you while you were helpless, and identify one person who needs to hear about His saving grace. Pray for that person and look for a loving opportunity to share the gospel.

PRAYER:

All-knowing Father, thank You for sending Christ at the appointed time to die for me while I was helpless and lost in sin. Teach me to depend fully on Your grace and to rest in the salvation You have provided. Fill my heart with gratitude for the cross. Give me compassion for those who remain far from You, and help me share the good news of Christ with humility and love. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

The 365 DAILY BIBLE READING

DAILY word study: AT THE APPOINTED TIME The expression translated “at the appointed time” comes from the Greek phrase kata kairon. The word kairos describes a fitting, decisive, or God-appointed moment rather than the simple passing of time.

Romans 5:6 places Christ’s death within God’s ordered plan of salvation. The cross was not an emergency response to human failure. God acted at the decisive moment He had determined, fulfilling His redemptive purpose through Christ.

This gives the gospel historical weight. Salvation rests on an event God planned and accomplished in real time.

Reflect on this:

How does knowing that the cross fulfilled God’s deliberate plan strengthen your confidence in the gospel?
