Death's Reign Broke by Christ

Rev. Tetteh-Annor Larbi | Sartuday, July 25, 2026 | Romans 5:12-21
KEY VERSE: “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses… Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.” (Romans 5:14 NKJV)
MESSAGE:
From the days of Adam until the time of Moses, death reigned over humanity as evidence of sin’s destructive effect. People did not all sin in the same manner as Adam, yet they experienced the consequences of living in a fallen world. Every generation faced sickness, weakness, and death. This showed that sin had entered the human family long before God gave the Law through Moses. Paul then describes Adam as “a type of Him who was to come,” pointing us towards Jesus Christ.
Through Adam’s disobedience, sin and death entered human history. Through Christ’s obedience, grace, justification, and life became available to all who receive Him by faith. Adam’s offence brought condemnation upon humanity. Christ’s righteous act opened the way for sinners to be declared righteous before God. Death reigned for generations, and Jesus Christ broke its dominion through His death and resurrection.
Physical death remains part of life in this fallen world, yet it no longer holds final victory over those who belong to Christ. The risen Christ gives believers the assurance of eternal life and the promised resurrection of the body. When believers die, they enter the presence of the Lord as they await the resurrection. This hope gives us courage to live faithfully, face the future with confidence, and prepare for eternity with Christ.
FEET AND HANDS:
Live today with confidence in Christ’s victory over death. Refuse to allow fear of death or uncertainty about the future to control your decisions. Let the resurrection of Jesus fill your heart with courage and hope. Use the life God has given you to serve Him faithfully and prepare your heart for eternity.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, thank You for conquering death through Your resurrection. Thank You for the promise of eternal life that I have through faith in You. Help me to live without fear, knowing that death has lost its final victory over those who belong to You. Fill my heart with hope and courage as I look forward to being with You forever. Help me to live each day in the light of eternity. In Your precious name, Amen.

DAILY word study: REIGNED Basileuō is the Greek word translated “reigned.” It means to rule as a king, exercise authority, or hold dominion over others.
Paul presents death as a ruling power that affected every generation from Adam onward. Its reign showed the far-reaching consequence of sin in human life. Every person lived under the certainty of physical death.
Jesus Christ entered this human condition, died, and rose again. His resurrection broke death’s final dominion over everyone who trusts in Him. Believers may experience physical death, yet they remain secure in Christ and await the resurrection of the body

Christ’s victory gives you courage for today and confidence for eternity.
Let this truth shape your decisions, calm your fears, and strengthen your faith. Death does not hold the final word over your life. You belong to the One who rose from the grave
