Double Security
Rev. Tetteh-Annor Larbi | June 1, 2024 | John 10:28-29
KEY VERSE:
And I will give them eternal life and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of my hand. John 10:28 (NKJV)
MESSAGE:
Recall the bible verse in Colossians 3:3, which says, our new life is hidden in Christ and in God. Very comforting indeed. In today’s passage, there is assurance from Jesus to His followers, of the eternal security they have in Him. He declared, "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand." These verses also highlight the profound truth that Jesus, the Good Shepherd, is not only our guide and protector but also the ultimate keeper of our souls. His promise of eternal life and security in His hands offers immense comfort and assurance to all who believe in Him.
Jesus' declaration emphasises the unmatched power and authority of both the Son and the Father in safeguarding the believers. The imagery of being held in Jesus' hand and the Father's hand underscores the dual security we enjoy. It is a reminder that our salvation and eternal life do not depend on our strength or ability but on the sovereign power and love of God. This divine assurance means that no external force, no matter how strong or cunning, can separate us from His love and protection. As we navigate life's uncertainties and challenges, we can rest in the confidence that the Good Shepherd is our vigilant keeper.
In moments of doubt, fear, or weakness, we can remind ourselves of the powerful truth that the Good Shepherd securely holds us. His grip on us is unbreakable, anchored in the immeasurable love and authority of God the Father. This security empowers us to live boldly and confidently, knowing that our eternal destiny is secure in Christ.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Embrace the assurance that you are safe in the hands of both Jesus and the Father. Be peaceful and strengthened in that the Good Shepherd is your keeper who faithfully watches over you and guides you towards eternal life. Go out in that boldness as you fulfil your God-given purpose in this life.
PRAYER:
Dear heavenly Father, thank you that I am the apple of your eye. And my life is hidden in Christ and in You. I am untouchable and fully protected by Your love. I walk in that boldness today. And I walk in that knowledge today to do exploits in Jesus’ name. Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!
DAILY word study: SNATCH
The Greek word for "snatch" in this passage is "ἁρπάζω" (harpazo), which means to seize, catch up, or snatch away forcefully. This word emphasises the security and assurance that Jesus provides to His followers. Jesus promises that no one can forcibly take away those who belong to Him, highlighting the strength and protection He offers. It is used in contexts of sudden or forceful taking (e.g., Matthew 13:19; Acts 8:39; 1 Thessalonians 4:17). In John 10:28, Jesus emphasizes the eternal security of His sheep—those who hear His voice and follow Him. The assurance that no one can snatch them out of His hand reflects the depth of Jesus' protective care and the power of His promise. This passage highlights the concept of divine protection, portraying Jesus as the Good Shepherd who ensures the safety and perseverance of His flock against any external threats. Reflection:
Do you trust in the security that Jesus provides? Reflect on the promise that nothing can snatch you out of His hand. How does this assurance affect your faith and daily life? Consider how you can rest in the protection and care of the Good Shepherd, knowing that you are eternally secure in Him.
