Faith Establishes the Law

Rev. Enoch Thompson | Monday, July 6, 2026 | Romans 3:27–31

KEY VERSE: “Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law.” (Romans 3:31, NKJV)

MESSAGE:

A question that has faced Christians over the centuries is this: Since we are saved by grace through faith, are we free to live as we please? The church in Rome grappled with this question, and our key verse gives Paul’s summary response, with more to come in Romans 6.

In Romans 3:27–31, Paul makes a profound argument. Salvation by grace through faith does not cancel God’s law. Faith puts the law in its rightful place. Human beings cannot boast about moral achievement, religious pedigree, or personal righteousness, because justification is entirely God’s work. Yet this gift of grace does not produce lawlessness. Rather, grace teaches the true believer to love what God commands.

Faith establishes the law because true faith unites us to Christ, the One who perfectly fulfilled the law. When we trust Him, His righteousness becomes ours, and His Spirit empowers us to walk in obedience. Obedience is no longer a desperate attempt to earn God’s approval. It becomes a joyful expression of gratitude. The law becomes desirable, not burdensome. God’s standards become the believer’s delight because they reflect His holy character.

True faith always produces a transformed life. It reshapes how we think, speak, and act. It removes boasting, destroys pride, and redirects all glory to God. The believer who lives by faith honours God’s law, not in order to be saved by works, but because they have been saved by grace. Grace does not make obedience optional. It makes obedience worship.

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

Let God’s grace humble your heart. Approach obedience as worship, not performance. Ask the Holy Spirit to align your desires with God’s standards. Let your daily choices reflect the righteousness you have received by faith.

PRAYER:

Father, thank You for saving me by grace through faith. Teach me to love Your law and walk in joyful obedience. Establish Your Word in my heart so that my life reflects Your holiness. Empower me by Your Spirit to honour You in all I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen. THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

The 365 DAILY BIBLE READING

DAILY word study: ESTABLISH The word translated “establish” comes from the Greek word histēmi, which means to stand, set in place, confirm, or uphold.

Paul teaches that justification by faith does not lead to careless living. Faith upholds God’s law because true faith joins us to Christ, who fulfilled the law perfectly. The believer does not obey God to earn salvation. The believer obeys because grace has changed the heart. God’s commands become the path of grateful worship.

Reflect on this:

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you love what God commands. Let your obedience today flow from faith, gratitude, and grace
