From Death to Life
Rev. Charles Oppong-Poku | March 24, 2024 | John 5:24-27
KEY VERSE:
"Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. John 5:24-25 (NIV)
MESSAGE: In these verses, Jesus speaks about His life-giving power as the Son of God. He emphasises that belief in Him leads to eternal life and a transition from spiritual death to life. This passage highlights Jesus' unique role as the source of life and the one who will bring about the resurrection of the dead. He declares that those who believe in Him have crossed over from death to life, indicating a spiritual rebirth and the assurance of eternal life. This passage invites us to consider the profound change in our lives when we place our faith in Christ.
We are all born into physical life, yet spiritually, we are dead in our sins. Without Christ, we reside in a state of spiritual death. Those who do not know God live in a perpetual state of dying or a life that is akin to death. However, those who believe in the Son of God transition from the dominion of death to the realm of life. The good news is that every one of us has the opportunity to have all our sins forgiven, by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus emphasises that eternal life is granted to those who hear His word and believe in God. This underscores the central role of faith in Christ for salvation and the assurance of life beyond death. Jesus speaks of a time when the dead will hear His voice and come to life, pointing to His authority over death and His power to bring about resurrection. This highlights the hope of the resurrection for all believers.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE: The better one knows Christ and the salvation He brings, the more he or she realises that his life has begun again in a new, fresh, and exciting way. He has "passed from death into life." Even though his body will fail him, the LORD Jesus will not. While death and decay may claim his physical existence, the eternal part of him is joined to Jesus and will never die. His future is tied to Christ. His sin is gone, and eternal life has begun.
PRAYER:
Dear God, I am grateful for the new life you have given me through Jesus. I believe I have been reborn and found a new purpose and meaning in life. I dedicate myself to living fully for Jesus. Bless me as I strive to live with passion and purpose for you so that when my time on earth ends, my spiritual life is prepared to join you in glory. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!
DAILY word study: DEATH TO LIFE In Greek, the phrase "death to life" is translated as "ἐκ τοῦ θανάτου εἰς τὴν ζωήν" (ek tou thanatou eis tēn zōēn). "ἐκ" (ek) signifies movement or transition from one state to another, indicating a decisive shift from death to life. "θανάτου" (thanatou) refers to physical or spiritual death, while "ζωήν" (zōēn) denotes the fullness of spiritual and eternal life in Christ This phrase emphasizes the fact that Through hearing and believing in Jesus' word and the message of the Father who sent Him, individuals are granted eternal life. This life is not contingent upon human merit or works but is a gracious gift received through faith. As a result, believers are no longer subject to condemnation or judgment but are declared righteous and reconciled to God. They experience a spiritual rebirth, characterized by a restored relationship with God and a new identity as His beloved children. Reflections: How does the reality of passing from death to life through faith in Christ impact your understanding of salvation and your daily walk with God? How can you share this message of hope and transformation with others who are spiritually dead?
