From Enemies to Family

Rev. Tetteh-Annor Larbi | Tuesday, July 21, 2026 | Romans 5:10
KEY VERSE: “For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” (Romans 5:10 NKJV)
MESSAGE:
It is one thing to say that sin made us guilty before God. Romans 5:10 goes further. It says that we were God’s enemies. Our sin expressed resistance to God’s rule and placed us in hostility toward Him. We could not remove our guilt or restore the relationship we had broken. Yet God did not leave us in that condition. Through the death of His Son, He took the initiative, removed the barrier, and made peace where there had been hostility. We who were once enemies have now been reconciled to God, restored to fellowship with Him, and received as His children.
Paul then gives us an even greater assurance. If Christ’s death reconciled us to God while we were still His enemies, we can trust Him even more now that Christ is alive and we belong to Him. Jesus rose from the dead, continues to intercede for us, strengthens us in our weakness, and will bring our salvation to completion. Our confidence rests in the living Christ who continues His saving work in us.
Because Christ is alive, we do not need to live as though God’s acceptance is temporary or uncertain. We can draw near to Him with confidence and enjoy the peace He has established. Reconciliation with God should also affect our relationships with others. Since God took the first step toward peace with us, we should be willing to forgive, seek understanding, and take wise steps toward restoring relationships damaged by offence and misunderstanding.
FEET AND HANDS:
Live today as someone who has been restored to fellowship with God. Refuse thoughts that keep you acting like an outsider in His presence. Spend time thanking Christ for making peace between you and God. Then identify one strained relationship in which you can take a wise step toward peace through an apology, a gracious conversation, forgiveness, or an act of kindness.
PRAYER:
Father, thank You for reconciling me to Yourself through the death of Jesus Christ. Thank You that the risen Christ continues to keep me and will bring my salvation to completion. Help me live with confidence in Your acceptance and reflect Your grace in my relationships. Give me the humility to seek peace, forgive others, and walk faithfully with You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

DAILY word study: RECONCILED The word translated “reconciled” comes from the Greek word katallassō. It means to restore peace between people whose relationship had been broken by hostility.
Romans 5:10 says, “we were reconciled.” The wording shows that God acted to restore the relationship. We did not negotiate peace with Him or remove the barrier caused by sin. Through Christ’s death, God brought us from hostility into fellowship with Himself.
Reconciliation changes our relationship with God. We now approach Him as people who have been received and restored.
