Gentile Christian, Be Measured - Part 1

KEY VERSE: “For if their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead?” — Romans 11:15 (ESV)

MESSAGE:

Grace should make us humble. Yet one danger of receiving spiritual privilege is that we can begin to look down on those who do not appear to share what we have received. Paul saw this danger among the Gentile believers and addressed it directly.

Ephesians 2:12–20 reminds us where the Gentiles had come from. They had once been “without hope and without God in the world.” Through Christ, they were brought near and became “members of the household of God.” Their new position was not something they had achieved. It was the result of God’s grace. Yet the very blessing they had received could tempt them to develop an arrogant or patronising attitude toward the Jews.

Paul gives several reasons why such an attitude is wrong. The first is that Israel’s present condition is not the end of God’s purpose for them. In Romans 11:12 he speaks of their future “full inclusion,” and in verse 15 he asks what their acceptance will mean “but life from the dead?” The Gentile believer must therefore be careful not to pass final judgment on a people with whom God has not finished dealing with. The second reason comes from Paul’s own ministry. Although he was “an apostle to the Gentiles,” he still longed for his fellow Jews to be saved. His joy over Gentile salvation did not remove his concern for Israel.

This was consistent with Paul’s calling. In Acts 9:15, the Lord described him as a chosen instrument who would carry Christ’s name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. Paul understood that God’s work among one group was never a reason to despise another. That same truth speaks to us. Grace must never become a platform for superiority. Spiritual privilege, responsibility, influence, or recognition should deepen our humility. Whatever God has given us remains a gift, and the right response is gratitude, humility, and a desire that others also come to know the saving mercy of Christ.

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

Examine whether any blessing, position, knowledge, or spiritual privilege has made you feel superior to others. Replace pride with gratitude. Treat people with dignity, pray for those who have not yet responded to Christ, and remember that you stand by grace.

PRAYER:

Father God, keep my heart humble before You. Deliver me from spiritual pride and every attitude of superiority. Help me to receive Your grace with gratitude and to desire that others also come to know the saving mercy of Christ. Amen.

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

DAILY word study: RECONCILIATION The Greek word translated “reconciliation” is katallagē (καταλλαγή), pronounced kat-al-la-GAY. It refers to the restoration of a relationship marked by separation or hostility.

In Romans 11:15, Paul explains that Israel’s rejection became the occasion for the gospel to reach the Gentile world. People who had once been far from God were being brought into a restored relationship with Him through Christ.

Katallagē describes more than gaining religious privilege. It speaks of a changed relationship with God. The Gentiles had received reconciliation, not a reason for superiority. The gift that brought them near to God should therefore produce gratitude and humility.

Reflect on This;

Has being reconciled to God made you more humble in the way you relate to others?
