KEY VERSE: “Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring…” (Romans 4:16, NIV)
MESSAGE:
Imagine a father asking a small child to touch his forehead for a reward. The child stretches but cannot reach. Then the father lovingly bends down so the child can touch him and receive what was promised. This simple picture helps us understand how God, in His grace, brings His promises within our reach.
God deeply desired that Abraham and his descendants, both physical and spiritual, should share in His promise. If that promise depended on human perfection or obedience to the law, no one could receive it. So God made the promise rest on grace and receive it through faith. What grace gives, faith receives.
Paul teaches that the promise comes by faith so that it may be guaranteed. This means the security of God’s promise does not rest on weak human ability. It rests on God’s gracious faithfulness. The believer can trust God because He is the One who gives the promise, secures the promise, and fulfils the promise.
Galatians 3:15–18 helps us see this truth more clearly. God’s promise to Abraham finds its fulfilment in Christ, the promised Seed. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we become beneficiaries of what God promised. In Christ, God has brought His grace near, and by faith we receive what we could never earn.
What a privilege and what love, that we should be welcomed into the precious promises of God by grace through faith.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Choose one promise from Scripture and meditate on it throughout the day. When fear rises, answer it with God’s Word. Encourage someone who is struggling to trust God’s promise.
PRAYER:
Faithful God, thank You for Your promises that never fail. Thank You for bringing Your grace near to me through Jesus Christ. Strengthen my faith and help me to trust You, even when my circumstances seem difficult. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
The 365 DAILY BIBLE READING
DAILY word study: GUARANTEED The word translated “guaranteed” comes from the Greek word bebaios, which means firm, secure, reliable, or established.
In Romans 4:16, Paul teaches that the promise comes by faith so that it may rest on grace and remain secure for all Abraham’s offspring.
This means God’s promise does not shake because human ability is weak. It stands firm because God Himself secures it.
In Christ, the promise is not uncertain. God gives it by grace, and faith receives it with confidence.
Reflect on this:
When your circumstances make God’s promise feel far away, remember that grace has made it secure. Trust the God who gives, keeps, and fulfils His Word.
