KEY VERSE: “And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment.” (Philippians 1:9, NKJV)
MESSAGE:
As we journey toward the remembrance of Christ’s suffering and resurrection, the Apostle Paul’s prayer for the believers in Philippi becomes deeply relevant: that their love would abound more and more. Christian love is not merely emotional affection. It is love guided by truth and wisdom. Paul connects love with knowledge and discernment. As believers grow in their understanding of God’s Word, their love becomes wiser, deeper, and more Christlike.
Paul’s prayer reminds us that genuine spiritual maturity involves the ability to approve the excellent things, choosing what honours Christ above what merely satisfies personal desire (Phil. 1:10). This growth leads to a life that is sincere and blameless until the day of Christ. A believer whose life is rooted in Christ will naturally bear the fruits of righteousness, attitudes and actions that reflect God’s character (Phil. 1:11).
Today’s passage highlights the ongoing work of sanctification. Salvation begins with personal faith in Jesus Christ, and the Christian life continues in growth shaped by God’s Word and empowered by the Holy Spirit. During Lent, we ask God to deepen our love, sharpen our discernment, and prepare our hearts for the coming day when Jesus Christ will be revealed in glory.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Lent offers a sacred opportunity to examine the condition of our hearts. Are we growing in love for God and for others? Or has our faith become routine and complacent? True Christian love grows through knowledge of God and produces a life that honours Christ.
PRAYER:
Lord, increase my love and deepen my understanding of Your truth. Help me grow in wisdom and discernment so that my life will bear fruit that brings glory to You. Amen. THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!
The 365 DAILY BIBLE READING
DAILY word study: DISCERNMENT The word discernment comes from the Greek word aisthēsis, which speaks of moral perception, spiritual insight, or the ability to judge rightly.
In Philippians 1:9, Paul prays that love will abound in knowledge and discernment. This shows that Christian love is not blind or careless. It learns to recognise what is fitting, what is pure, and what best honours Christ. Discernment helps believers choose what is excellent and live with sincerity before God.
Reflect on this:
As your love grows in discernment, you begin to respond to people and situations with greater wisdom. God teaches you not only to love deeply, but also to love rightly.
