How do you Enter - the Door or Windows?
Rev. Tetteh-Annor Larbi | May 25, 2024 | John 10:1-6
KEY VERSE:
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. John 10:1 (NKJV)
MESSAGE:
In John 10:1-6, Jesus contrasts the true shepherd who enters by the door with thieves and robbers who sneak in through other ways. This imagery of doors and windows invites us to reflect on the importance of legitimate entry points in our spiritual lives. The door represents the proper, honest approach to seeking God and leading others. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, exemplifies this by entering through the door, symbolising His rightful authority and genuine love. As believers, we are called to enter through the door by following Jesus’ teachings and embracing His path of righteousness.
The thieves and robbers, however, seek to bypass the door, entering through windows or other deceitful means. They symbolise false prophets, corrupt leaders, and harmful influences that attempt to mislead the flock. These intruders do not have the sheep's best interests at heart and aim to exploit and harm them. In our lives, we must be vigilant, and discerning between those who come with genuine intentions and those who seek to deceive. By grounding ourselves in Scripture and prayer, we can better recognise the true voice of the Shepherd and avoid the pitfalls of false teachings.
Assurance and safety come from following Jesus, the true door to abundant life. When we enter through Him, we find peace, protection, and purpose. Just as the sheep follow the shepherd's voice because they know and trust Him, we too can confidently follow Jesus, knowing He leads us with love and care. Let us commit to entering through the door of Christ, rejecting the tempting shortcuts of windows that lead to harm, and embracing the fullness of life He offers.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
By what entrance did you come into the fold? Is it by the true door which is Jesus or by another means?
Jesus is the only way through which you can come to the Father. Examine your mode of entry and do the needful now. Be conscious and beware of those who will not come by the door but by other means. They come with deceit and come to harm you. Follow Jesus.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, I will follow you. I will listen to your voice and be obedient to you. Help me by your Spirit to discern the voice of those who are false teachers and guide me to follow your path. Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!
DAILY word study: DOOR The Greek word for "door" is "θύρα" (thyra). It refers to a physical door or entrance, but metaphorically, it signifies the legitimate and rightful means of entry or access. The door metaphor emphasizes the necessity of entering into God's fold through the proper means, which is Jesus Christ. It shows Jesus’ exclusive role as the mediator between God and humanity, the legitimate way to salvation, and access to God's kingdom. It also highlights the discernment needed to distinguish true shepherds, who enter by Jesus, from false ones who seek to mislead and harm the flock. Reflections:
Reflect on how you seek access to God and His blessings. Are you entering through the "door" that is Jesus, following His teachings and guidance? Consider the influences in your life—are they leading you through the legitimate door, or are they like thieves and robbers?
