Human Capabilities
Rev. Osei Kwabena Nkrahene | June 9, 2024 | John 11:17-27
KEY VERSE:
²⁵ Jesus said to her “ I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me though he die, yet shall he live ²⁶ and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26 (NKJV)
MESSAGE:
Life comes with various kinds and degrees of problems and difficulties. The death of a loved one appears to go with a particular weight.
In the case of Martha and Mary, they had carried some hope of seeing Lazarus, their brother, getting healed. We’re told many Jews came to mourn with them. Some walked two miles to be with them. Highly commendable.
On the issue of death that appears to be all that the human being can do. The Key Verses give us some profound truths –
Resurrection and genuine life stem from a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus.
Those who now have spiritual life in Christ will ultimately triumph over death.
In verses 22 and 27, Martha makes profound affirmations but it appears clear that she was not linking them to the brother's resurrection. Perhaps much like us – God is capable and willing but not in our particular case – as we seem to think and behave.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Death closes all human capabilities. We have a Loving God, we have a Powerful God, etc. It’s difficult to understand how we appear not to believe in Him in our particular cases.
PRAYER:
Lord help us to acknowledge the limitations of Human Capabilities and give us grace to trust you in all Circumstances.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!
DAILY word study: RESURRECTION
The word resurrection is translated in the Greek text as ἀνάστασις (anástasis). It means the act of rising from the dead, resurrection, and restoration to life. The word is frequently used in the New Testament to refer to the bodily resurrection, both of Jesus and believers at the end of times. Jesus' declaration: "I am the resurrection and the life," provides a profound revelation of His divine nature and mission. The statement does not only promise life after death but also signifies that eternal life begins in the present for those who believe in Him. This declaration serves to comfort Martha and the disciples, affirming that belief in Jesus transcends physical death. It shifts the focus from a mere future hope to a present assurance of life in Him. Reflections:
Consider how the promise of resurrection and eternal life impacts your daily living. How does the assurance of Jesus being the resurrection and the life change your perspective on death and suffering
