Jesus is Superior, Pt. 5: Because He is the Son of God!

Rev. Enoch Thompson | March 2, 2024 | John 3:35

KEY VERSE:

“The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands.” John 3:35 (NIV)

MESSAGE:

Our spiritual journey is a search to experience God, to gain the favour of God,  to be incorporated into the family of God, and to experience God in this life and to live with God eternally after death. In seeking out these favours we encounter Jesus the Lord, the incarnate Son of God, God Himself in human form. This puts Him in a class of His own. He is not to be compared to any of the prophets and servants of God. They are nothing more than servants of God. The testimony of the Bible is that the Son of God is superior to the Prophets of God, see Heb. 1:1-4 (NIV):

In the past, God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, ² but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. ³ The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. ⁴ So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.

Scripture further testifies that the Son of God is superior to the angels, see Heb. 1:7-8 (NIV),

⁷In speaking of the angels he says,

"He makes his angels winds,

his servants flames of fire."

⁸ But about the Son he says,

"Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever,

and righteousness will be the sceptre of your kingdom.

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

Befriend the Son of the House and become accepted as a child of the family. There is no other way to gain admission to the family of God. Have you embraced the Son of God, then God will embrace you as His child!

PRAYER:

Father in Heaven, thank you for giving us yourself in your Son Jesus Christ and making us your children through Him. Please help us to love Him so that you might love us back. For His dear Name’s sake, Amen.

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

DAILY word study: THE SON

The Greek word for "the Son" in John 3:35 is "ὁ υἱός" (ho huios), which is a definite article followed by the noun "υἱός" (huios), meaning "son." In the context of John's Gospel, "the Son" refers specifically to Jesus Christ as the divine Son of God who has come into the world to reveal the Father and accomplish salvation for humanity.

The verse further states that the Father has placed everything in the hands of the Son. This indicates the supreme authority and sovereignty entrusted to Jesus by the Father. As the Son of God, Jesus has full control over all things, including creation, salvation, and judgment.

Reflections:

How does recognizing Jesus as the beloved Son of God and the one to whom the Father has entrusted everything impact your understanding of His authority and lordship in your life? How does this truth shape your relationship with Jesus and your response to His teachings and commands?
