Jesus is Superior, Pt. 6: Because Everything is in His Hands!

Rev. Enoch Thompson | March 3, 2024 | John 3:35

KEY VERSE:

“The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands.” John 3:35 (NIV)

MESSAGE:

What people have and what they control becomes a measuring rod of how much power they have. People are measured by their net worth in cash, houses, cars, jewellery, factories etc. The supremacy and superiority of the Lord Jesus Christ is presented by John the Baptist as being based on His possessing all things because the Father has placed them in His hands. He possesses all things visible and invisible. All thrones and dominions are subject to Him. He has the last word in every argument.

In His pre-ascension statement, the Lord Jesus Himself testified, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Matt 28:18 (NIV). The power of life and death, the ability to bless and to prosper remain in the hands of the Lord Jesus to give to whom He wills. If we are to choose whom to yield allegiance to, it must be the One to whom all authority and power has been given. He alone would be able to keep us amidst the cares and woes of this life and would be able to ensure our security from the forces that seek to derail our progress in the pilgrims’ progress.

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

Are you seeking power, provision, guidance, assurance, eternal life etc? Look no further, all things are in the hands of the Lord Jesus. When you have Him, you have everything!

PRAYER:

Lord, I want you more than I want anything, and I know when I have you, I have everything. Lord help me to have you so that I might have everything. For your dear Name’s sake, Amen.

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

DAILY word study: IN HIS HANDS

The Greek phrase for "in his hands" is "ἐν τῇ χειρὶ αὐτοῦ" (en tē cheiri autou), where "ἐν" (en) means "in," "τῇ χειρὶ" (tē cheiri) means "the hand," and "αὐτοῦ" (autou) means "his." This phrase underscores the idea of Jesus holding all things within His grasp, exercising authority and control over them according to the will of the Father. The phrase symbolizes the sphere of Jesus' authority and sovereignty. It indicates that Jesus has been given complete control over all things by the Father. This authority encompasses not only earthly matters but also spiritual realities and eternal destinies. The Father's love for the Son is intimately connected with His act of entrusting everything into Jesus' hands. It signifies the Father's confidence in Jesus' ability to fulfil His divine purposes and bring about the redemption and restoration of all things.

Reflections:

How does acknowledging that Jesus holds everything in His hands impact your trust and reliance on Him in your daily life? How does it influence your perspective on the challenges and uncertainties you may face, knowing that Jesus has ultimate authority and control over all things?
