Jesus - The Giver of Eternal Life
Rev. Charles Oppong-Poku | September 18 2024 | John 17:1-5
KEY VERSE:
For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. John 17:2-3 (NIV)
MESSAGE:
In John 17:2-3, we find profound words spoken by Jesus during His prayer to the Father. He highlights His authority over all people and reveals the true nature of eternal life. These verses help us understand Jesus as the Giver of life and provide insight into the heart of salvation. In John 17:2, Jesus declares that the Father has given Him authority over all flesh to grant eternal life to those whom God has given Him. Jesus came to give us life and His goal was to give us life that would endure. Eternal life is not something we can earn but is a gracious gift given by Jesus, the One with divine authority. In John 17:3, Jesus defines eternal life not merely as endless existence but as knowing "the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." Eternal life is relational; it is about entering into an intimate and personal relationship with God. Knowing God is more than intellectual knowledge—it is an experiential, heart-level connection with the Creator, made possible through Jesus Christ. Jesus, the Giver of life, draws us into this eternal relationship with God, which begins here on earth and continues forever.
Through Jesus, we are given the opportunity to know God intimately. His role as Mediator is central to our understanding of eternal life. As the Giver of life, Jesus opens the door to a relationship that transforms our lives and offers us a deeper purpose. Knowing God through Christ is the essence of eternal life and the source of true fulfilment and peace.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Jesus, the Giver of life, calls us into a relationship that goes beyond knowledge or religious rituals. He offers us eternal life - a life that is defined by knowing God personally and intimately. This life is not just about the future; it starts now as we live in communion with the Father through the Son. PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus, the Giver of life, to draw us into a deep relationship with You. Help me to know You more intimately each day and to live in the fullness of the eternal life that You have given. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen. THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!
DAILY word study: ETERNAL LIFE The phrase "eternal life" (zōē aiōnios in Greek) refers not just to life without end but to a quality of life that comes from knowing God. It is relational and spiritual, emphasizing life in communion with God. In John 17:3, Jesus redefines eternal life as a relationship with God and Himself, not merely an unending existence. This is the heart of salvation—knowing God intimately through Christ. This phrase highlights that eternal life begins now as we know God and Jesus in a personal way. Salvation is about more than heaven; it’s about a transforming relationship with the Creator that starts in the present and extends into eternity. Reflections:
How does knowing that eternal life means a deep relationship with God change how you live today?
