Miracles Reveal Jesus' Glory

Rev. Charles Oppong-Poku | February 8, 2024 | John 2:6-12

KEY VERSE:

“What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.” John 2:11 (NIV)

MESSAGE:

In today’s passage, we witness the first miracle performed by Jesus at the wedding in Cana, where He turned water into wine. This miraculous event serves as a profound reminder that miracles are not just displays of power but revelations of God's glory. The key verse (John 2:11) states that this miracle at Cana revealed Jesus' glory, causing His disciples to believe in Him. Miracles invite us to respond in faith and belief. The miracle showcased His authority over nature and unveiled His approach to ministry – assisting others, speaking with authority, and engaging personally with people.

Miracles are not merely supernatural events, but events that demonstrate God’s power. Almost every miracle Jesus did was a renewal of fallen creation – restoring sight, making the lame walk, and even restoring life to the dead. Believe in Christ not only because He is a superman but because He is the God who continues His creation, even in those of us who are poor, weak, disabled, orphaned, visually impaired, hearing-impaired, or facing some other urgent need. Miracles are signs pointing to the majesty and splendour of God. Each miracle unveils a glimpse of His glory. While grand miracles may capture our attention, God's glory is also evident in everyday miracles—the sunrise, the birth of a child, and the healing of a broken heart. Reflect on the miracles, both big and small, in your life.

Miracles are not merely extraordinary events; they are glimpses into the glory of God. As we reflect on the miraculous, may our hearts be attuned to recognize His glory in both grand gestures and the subtleties of everyday life. Remember, every miracle performed by God is genuine, and always points people to God and His glory.

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

How can you cultivate a heart of unwavering faith in response to God's glory revealed through His miracles? Consider the miracles recorded in the bible. How do these stories reveal different facets of God’s glory, and what lessons can you draw from them about His character and nature? Cultivate a mindset that sees God’s hand at work in all things.

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, I thank you for the miracles that reveal your glory. Open my eyes to see your hand at work in both the extraordinary and ordinary moments of my life. May my faith be strengthened as I recognize your majesty in the miraculous. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

DAILY word study: SIGNS

The term "signs" in the Greek text is translated from "σημεῖον" (sēmeion). In biblical usage, "σημεῖον" refers to a miraculous or extraordinary event that points to a deeper spiritual truth or reality.

In John 2:1-11, Jesus performs His first miracle by turning water into wine at the wedding feast in Cana.

This miraculous act is described as a "sign" by John, indicating its significance beyond the physical transformation of water into wine.

The "signs" performed by Jesus throughout His ministry serve as evidence of His divine authority and identity as the Son of God. Each "sign" reveals something about Jesus' character, mission, and relationship with the Father, inviting people to believe in Him. The "signs" point to the deeper truth that Jesus is the Messiah, the promised Savior who brings salvation and restoration to humanity. They invite people to recognize Jesus' divine nature and respond in faith, leading to transformation and eternal life.

Reflections:

Consider the "signs" of Jesus recorded in the Gospels. How do these miraculous events deepen your understanding of who Jesus is, and how do they impact your faith journey?
