No Longer Slave to Sin

KEY VERSE: “For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.”_ — Romans 6:6–7 NIV
MESSAGE:
Having explained our union with Christ, Paul now shows its practical result. Our former relationship with sin has been decisively changed. Through Christ’s death, the old self that lived under sin’s dominion was crucified. Sin no longer possesses the right to rule those who belong to Jesus Christ.
Paul says that “the body ruled by sin might be done away with.” He is not teaching that the physical body is evil or must be destroyed. He means that sin’s power to control us and use our bodies as instruments of disobedience has been rendered powerless. We now belong to Christ, and our bodies can serve God’s purposes.
Temptation still comes, and old habits may press for attention. The believer now faces them as someone whom Christ has set free. Through the Holy Spirit, we receive strength to reject sinful desires, leave tempting situations, confess hidden wrongs, and choose obedience. Sin may call for our surrender, but it no longer holds rightful mastery over us.
Freedom from sin must shape our daily conduct. We walk in that freedom by surrendering our choices to God and acting on the truth of His Word. Each time we resist temptation and choose righteousness, we show that Christ has broken sin’s controlling power. Live today as one who has been set free to obey God.
FEET AND HANDS:
Identify one sin you have been yielding to as though it still controls you. Bring it honestly before God and take one decisive step today. Remove access to the temptation, leave the setting, confess the wrong, seek accountability, or replace the sinful response with obedience. Depend on the Holy Spirit and walk in the freedom Christ has given you.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, thank You that through Jesus Christ my old self was crucified and sin no longer rules me. Forgive me for yielding to sins from which Christ has set me free. Strengthen me through the Holy Spirit to resist temptation, choose obedience, and walk faithfully in the freedom You have given me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

DAILY word study: SLAVE The expression “be slaves” is translated from the Greek verb douleuein, meaning “to serve as a slave” or “to live under another’s control.”
Through union with Christ, sin has lost its ruling authority over the believer. Temptation may still arise, but the Holy Spirit gives us strength to refuse sin and choose obedience.

Where have you been living as though sin still controls you? Take one clear step today that shows you belong to Christ.
