The first point of call

Rev. Tetteh-Annor Larbi | June 23, 2023 | Matthew 19:3-9

KEY VERSE:

Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate Matthew 19:6b (NIV)

MESSAGE:

We see here again in the text that the Pharisees as usual came to test Jesus, with a question on marriage and divorce. One could probably think that they wanted Jesus to validate something they were already practising. Many times, when Jesus is asked questions of this nature, His source of solution is to go to the original source of all things, The Word. He quoted the scriptures and often referred to them to provide answers to diffuse any tensions and agitations His questioners may desire to create. We realise that when they asked him questions about Divorce and the Divorce certificate by Moses, He always took them back to the scriptures. Matt 19:8c “…but it was not this way from the beginning."

Often, we are tempted to give a human reference or some secondary reference in answer to challenges and problems we face. And that is a natural response of the natural man; after all, Adam blamed Eve for eating the fruit and Eve blamed the serpent. Nobody referenced what God actually said about eating the fruit. The problem is that we do not easily make the word of God our reference point and our starting point to address life challenges. It is usually the last resort and not the first point of call. We are likely to first apply human wisdom before considering the wisdom of God in almost all situations.

It requires a conscious and intentional effort to always make the word of God one’s primary source of reference when we are pressed to decide about anything that borders life and the spiritual walk with God.

FEET AND HANDS OF THE MESSAGE

The Word of God is our sole and final authority when it comes to understanding matters of Christianity and Spirituality. Your reference and final information for taking major decisions about Spirituality and the Christian walk should be the word of God. Get intentional and get studying.

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, I desire to know your word. Please help me to study it and know it enough to make it my reference when confronted with major decisions in my walk with you. For Your dear name’s sake. Amen.

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSINGS SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!
