The Simplicity of Salvation - I: The Word is Near You
Rev. Tetteh-Annor Larbi | Tuesday, October 6, 2026 | Romans 10:5–8

KEY VERSE: “But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is the word of faith which we preach)” — Romans 10:8
MESSAGE:
Paul begins by contrasting two ways of thinking about righteousness. Verse 5 speaks of righteousness connected to the law, with the emphasis on doing. Then Paul turns to the righteousness that comes by faith.
He says we do not need to ask who will ascend into heaven to bring Christ down, or who will descend into the deep to bring Him up from the dead. Christ has already come. He has already risen. Salvation does not depend on some impossible spiritual achievement.
The word is near because the message concerning Christ has already been brought to us and proclaimed. Paul calls it “the word of faith.” It is not hidden in some distant place or reserved for people who have reached a special spiritual level.
This is the simplicity of the Gospel. God has acted in Christ, and the saving message has been made known. We are called to hear that word, trust what God has done, and respond in faith. You do not have to climb your way toward salvation. The Gospel has already been brought near.
FEET AND HANDS OF THE MESSAGE:
Listen again to the Gospel message concerning Christ. Let go of the pressure to make salvation complicated or to reach God through spiritual achievement. Receive the word of faith with trust, and let your confidence rest in what God has already done through Christ.
PRAYER:
Father, thank You for bringing the Gospel near through Christ. Help me to trust the word of faith You have given and to rest in what You have already done. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING. SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

DAILY word study: NEAR The Greek word for today's word study is engys (ἐγγύς), meaning “near,” “close,” or “within reach.”
In Romans 10:8, Paul is not mainly speaking about physical distance. He is showing that the Gospel message concerning Christ is not hidden or inaccessible. It has been brought near through proclamation.
This means salvation is not something you must search for in some distant place. The word of faith has already been made known.
Reflect on This:
How are you responding to the Gospel that God has already brought within reach?
