KEY VERSE: “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16, NKJV)
MESSAGE:
Today’s passage reminds us of the battle within every believer, the conflict between the flesh and the Spirit. The Apostle Paul describes these two opposing forces clearly in Galatians 5. The flesh represents the sinful nature that pulls us toward self-centred desires and destructive behaviours. Paul lists the works of the flesh as attitudes and actions that fracture relationships and pull us away from the life God intends for His people.
In contrast, the Holy Spirit produces a different kind of life. When the Spirit governs the heart, His presence becomes visible through what Paul calls the “fruit of the Spirit” (Gal. 5:22–23). These qualities reflect the character of Jesus Christ Himself. Paul declares that those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. This crucifixion is both decisive and daily. At conversion, we turn away from the rule of sin, but each day we must continue to surrender our desires to the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
Every believer receives the Holy Spirit indwelling at the time of salvation. The Spirit is not a distant influence but the personal presence of God within us. Walking in the Spirit means living in conscious dependence on Him, allowing His Word to shape our thoughts, His conviction to correct our choices, and His power to guide our actions. The fruit of the Spirit grows as we remain yielded to God.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Walking in the Spirit means allowing Jesus Christ’s character to shape every part of your life. Lent provides a valuable opportunity to examine our hearts and ask whether our lives are displaying the fruit that reflects Jesus Christ. The closer we walk with the Spirit, the more clearly the character of Jesus becomes visible in us.
PRAYER:
Holy Spirit, I confess that I cannot live the Christian life in my own strength. Help me crucify the desires of the flesh and walk daily in Your guidance. Produce in me the fruit that reflects the character of Christ. May my life bring honour to God as I follow You faithfully. Amen. THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!
The 365 DAILY BIBLE READING
DAILY word study: WALK The word walk comes from the Greek word peripateō, which means “to live,” “to conduct one’s life,” or “to move step by step.”
In Galatians 5:16, Paul uses this word to describe a daily way of life. Walking in the Spirit is not a single moment but a continuing pattern of dependence on Him. It means allowing the Holy Spirit to guide our thoughts, shape our choices, and form the character of Christ within us.
Reflect on this:
Every step you take today can reflect either the pull of the flesh or the guidance of the Spirit. As you yield to the Holy Spirit, your life begins to show the fruit that pleases God.
