KEY VERSE: “Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.” — Romans 8:5 NKJV
MESSAGE:
In Romans 8:1–4, Paul declares that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Having been set free, the believer is now called to live a new life directed by the Holy Spirit. In verse 5, Paul shows that the direction of our lives is closely connected to the focus of our minds. Our thoughts influence our desires, decisions, attitudes and actions. The key question is therefore not only, “What do I do?” but also, “What occupies my mind?”
The mind reveals the direction of a person’s life. Paul says that those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh. Here, the word “mind” points to more than occasional thoughts. It speaks of our orientation, interests, desires and continuing focus. What develops within us eventually becomes visible through our conduct. Therefore, what consistently occupies our thoughts deserves serious spiritual attention.
Paul contrasts the mindset of the flesh with that of the Spirit. The flesh directs our attention towards desires that draw us away from God, while the Spirit directs our hearts towards God’s Word, holiness, prayer, fellowship, service and obedience. As we continually allow God’s truth to shape our minds, our desires, values, choices and actions are transformed to reflect Christ. A Spirit-directed life is one whose priorities are increasingly shaped by God and centred on Christ.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Give deliberate attention to what occupies your mind today. Turn away from thoughts that feed the flesh, and replace them with God’s Word, prayer, and what strengthens obedience. Before your next decision, ask: “Is this thought leading me toward Christ or away from Him?” Then choose the response that honours God.
PRAYER:
Lord, search my mind and show me what has been shaping my desires, attitudes, and choices. Help me turn away from thoughts that feed the flesh and fill my heart with Your Word. Teach me to set my mind on the things of the Spirit, to desire what pleases You, and to live with priorities centred on Christ. Let my thoughts become obedient to You, and my life reflect Your Spirit’s work within me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

Day 245 Isaiah 57–59 — The Lord Calls His People to Repentance and Comes as Their Redeemer
DAILY word study: SET THIER MINDS “Set their minds” is translated from the Greek verb phroneō, meaning to think, to direct one’s attention, to adopt an outlook, or to be deeply concerned about something. It describes an enduring disposition that shapes a person’s interests, desires and choices.
The things of the Spirit become our focus as we deliberately receive God’s Word, seek His guidance and allow His truth to influence our decisions. What continually occupies the mind gradually directs the life.
Reflect on this:
Your life follows the direction of your thoughts. Fill your mind with God’s truth and let the Spirit guide your choices.
