Where Are You Going After Death?
Rev. Tse Amable | July 16, 2024 | John 13:1
KEY VERSE: “It was just before the Passover Feast. JESUS KNEW THAT THE TIME HAD COME FOR HIM TO LEAVE THIS WORLD AND GO TO THE FATHER. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love.” John 13:1 (NIV)
MESSAGE:
Our verse for the day tells us that the time had come for Jesus Christ to leave this world and go to the Father. That return to the Father was his impending death, burial and resurrection. Jesus Christ knew he would be dying and was prepared for that eventuality. He also prepared his disciples for his death on the cross.
The Bible clearly teaches us that there is life after death and that there are two destinations for the dead. Here in Ghana, that belief is very strong. In many cultures, the dead are given money to pay for the boat ride which will transport them to the other world. In the gospels, Jesus Christ told a parable about 2 men (Lazarus and an unnamed Rich Man) who died but went to different destinations. Lazarus went to heaven while the Rich Man went to hell (see Luke 16:19-31). In the parable of sheep and goats, the Lord told the righteous ones “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world” (Matthew 25:34) but told the wicked ones “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into THE ETERNAL FIRE prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matthew 25:41). There are only TWO DESTINATIONS AFTER DEATH – HEAVEN OR HELL. There is no third destination.
You can only choose the destination yourself and it must be before you die. Nobody can choose for you
So I ask you: WHERE ARE YOU GOING AFTER DEATH?
If you have not as yet chosen, I recommend you choose HEAVEN by accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour and Lord. If you fail to choose heaven, by default you have chosen hell.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Do you know where you are going after death? Are you aware that a time coming when you will leave this world? What preparations are you making so that you can embrace death confidently as Jesus Christ did?
PRAYER:
Lord, I know that a time will come when I shall be leaving this world through death. Help me to live well and prepare for that time so that the doors of heaven will not be shut in my face. Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!
DAILY word study: LEAVE The Greek word translated as "leave" in John 13:1 is "μεταβαίνειν" (metabainein), which means to go from one place to another, to depart, or to transfer. It signifies a transition or movement from one state or location to another. The use of the term leave explains Jesus' awareness of His imminent departure. His departure is not an end but a transition to a new phase of His mission—returning to the Father and preparing a place for His followers. Jesus' departure from this world highlights the Christian hope of eternal life and the ultimate destination for believers. His journey back to the Father serves as a model for believers, reassuring them of their future with God. This passage invites reflection on the eternal destination awaiting each person and the importance of living with an eternal perspective, knowing that life on earth is temporary and what comes after is of utmost significance. Reflections: This anticipation of leaving the world should inspire a life of faithfulness, love, and preparation for the eternal home with the Father. How does the assurance of Jesus’ departure to prepare a place for you impact your daily life and your preparation for what comes after death?
