Faith is God's 'Currency' for Salvation

Rev. Enoch Thompson | Tuesday, July 7, 2026 | Romans 4:1–8

KEY VERSE: “What does the Scripture say? ‘Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.’” (Romans 4:3, NIV)

MESSAGE:

Human nature often seeks acceptance through effort, performance, and achievement. We carry this mindset into our relationship with God and assume that we must earn His approval. We create religious systems, personal standards, and spiritual scorecards to measure our worth before Him.

Paul shows us God’s way through Abraham. Abraham was not declared righteous because of his achievements. He was counted righteous because he believed God. His faith received what God graciously credited to him. This is the heart of salvation. God does not justify sinners based on human merit. He justifies by grace through faith.

David also celebrates this blessedness. He speaks of the person whose sins are forgiven, whose guilt is covered, and whose sin the Lord does not count against him. This is the joy of the Gospel. God forgives the guilty, covers sin by His mercy, and receives the believer through faith in Christ.

This truth brings freedom to your soul. You do not have to struggle to earn God’s saving favour. Through faith in Christ, you stand accepted before God. Your relationship with Him rests on His grace. When you truly understand this grace, you will desire to honour Him with a life of obedience, gratitude, and worship.

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

Take time today to thank God for the gift of salvation. Examine any area where you are trying to prove your worth before Him. Rest in the finished work of Christ, and choose one clear act of obedience that honours God’s grace in your life.

PRAYER:

Father, thank You that I am saved by grace through faith and not by my own works. Help me to trust fully in the finished work of Christ. Teach me to live each day with gratitude for Your mercy and with obedience that honours Your grace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

The 365 DAILY BIBLE READING

DAILY word study: CREDITED The word translated “credited” comes from the Greek word logizomai, which means “to count,” “to reckon,” “to consider,” or “to place into one’s account.”

In Romans 4:3, Paul teaches that Abraham believed God, and God counted his faith as righteousness. This does not mean Abraham earned righteousness.

It means God graciously placed righteousness to his account because Abraham trusted Him. This is the heart of justification by faith. God receives the believer through faith, forgives sin, and grants righteousness through Christ.

Reflect on this:

You do not stand before God on the strength of your record. You stand before Him by faith in Christ. Trust what God has credited to you by grace.
