No One is Declared Righteous by the Law

Rev. Tse Amable | Wednesday, July 1, 2026 | Romans 3:13–20

KEY VERSE: “Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.” (Romans 3:20, NIV)

MESSAGE:

The Apostle Paul continues to reveal the sad condition of humankind in the sight of God. When you read the words Paul wrote in this chapter, the only conclusion you can reach is that there is no hope for humankind outside the saving grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ.

Our key verse for today begins with “Therefore.” This means Paul is concluding what has been written in the preceding verses. From verse 13, we see more of the sinful nature of man. Look at what the Scriptures reveal: “Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit; the poison of vipers is on their lips; their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness; their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know; there is no fear of God before their eyes” (Romans 3:13-18, NIV).

The laws and commandments of God make us conscious of sin. That is why no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by observing the law. We cannot depend on the law for righteousness before God. We must depend on the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ.

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

Examine your heart and see whether the sinful traits mentioned in Romans 3:13–18 are present in your life. The Bible says, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure” (Jeremiah 17:9 NIV).

The cure is found only in the new life we receive in Christ Jesus. The Bible also says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV). Bring your heart before Christ today and allow Him to cleanse you and make you new.

PRAYER:

Search my heart, O God, and reveal anything in me that does not please You. Cleanse me from every sin and help me stop depending on my own righteousness. Make me new in Christ and teach me to live by Your grace each day. Amen. THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

The 365 DAILY BIBLE READING

DAILY word study: CONSCIOUS

The word translated “conscious” comes from the Greek word epignosis, which means full knowledge, clear recognition, or deep awareness.

Paul teaches that the law gives us a clear awareness of sin. It shows us where we have fallen short before God. The law does not hide the truth about the human heart. It brings sin into the light so that we can see our need for cleansing, forgiveness, and new life in Christ.

Reflect on this:

Ask God to make you honest before Him today. When His Word reveals sin in your life, do not excuse it. Bring it to Christ. His grace can cleanse you and make you new.
