KEY VERSE: “. . . for the gospel of God, which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures.” (Romans 1:1–2, ESV)
MESSAGE:
In introducing himself to the Romans, Paul says he was set apart for the gospel of God, and he immediately reminds us that this gospel had been promised beforehand through God’s prophets in the Holy Scriptures.
That promise runs through the Old Testament. From the earliest promises to the prophetic writings, God prepared His people to expect the Saviour. Micah pointed to Bethlehem as the place where Christ would be born (Micah 5:2). Isaiah also gave glimpses of the coming age of salvation through the voice preparing the way, the announcement of the Lord’s favour, the beauty of good news, and the suffering of the Servant. Through these Scriptures, God was guiding His people toward Christ.
All that God had promised in the Scriptures became visible in Christ. His birth, ministry, suffering, resurrection, and the salvation proclaimed in His name fulfilled what God had already spoken. The risen Christ opened the Scriptures to His disciples and showed that the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms all testified about Him (Luke 24:27, 44–47).
In Christ, the promises of the Old Testament Scriptures were fulfilled. This shows the faithfulness of God and confirms the divine origin of Scripture. God spoke through many voices across many generations, and His word found its fulfilment in Christ.
Because the gospel was promised beforehand and fulfilled in Christ, we can trust God’s Word, honour His Son, and rest in His unfailing faithfulness.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Trust God’s Word, for He always keeps His promises.
Receive Christ with faith, for in Him God’s promise is fulfilled.
Rest in God’s faithfulness and walk in obedience to His Word.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for the gospel promised beforehand and fulfilled in You. Strengthen our faith in Your Word, and help us to trust and obey You as the God who always keeps His promises. Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

DAILY word study: PROMISED BEFOREHAND
Proepangellomai is the Greek word behind the phrase “promised beforehand.” It means to announce, pledge, or promise in advance.
In Romans 1:2, Paul says that the gospel of God had already been promised through the prophets in the Holy Scriptures. This means the coming of Christ was part of God’s revealed plan. God spoke in advance, and His word found fulfilment in Christ. This gives us confidence in Scripture. God’s promises are trustworthy because God is faithful. What He speaks, He fulfils according to His purpose.
Reflect on this: When God gives His word, He keeps it. Let the fulfilled gospel deepen your trust in Scripture and strengthen your confidence in the faithfulness of God.
