You are Secured in the Hand of Jesus Christ

Rev. Tse Amable | October 4 2024 | John 18:1-11

KEY VERSE:

This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: “I have not lost one of those you gave me.” John 18:9 (NIV)

MESSAGE:

One subject which is made abundantly clear in the scriptures is the eternal security of the believer in Jesus Christ. We had glimpses of it in Jehovah’s dealings with the nation of Israel in the Old Testament. Because of his covenant with Abraham and later with David, Jehovah always protected and defended the Israelites, even though he had to punish them some of the times when they transgressed his laws.

In the New Testament, we see that the believer in Jesus Christ is safe and secured. The Lord had on several occasions spoken about this truth. For example, in John 10:27-29, he said: “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; NO ONE CAN SNATCH THEM OUT OF MY HAND. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; NO ONE CAN SNATCH THEM OUT OF MY FATHER'S HAND”.  Earlier, in John 6:39-40, Jesus Christ declared: “And this is the will of him who sent me, that I SHALL LOSE NONE OF ALL THAT HE HAS GIVEN ME, BUT RAISE THEM UP AT THE LAST DAY. For my Father's will is that EVERYONE WHO LOOKS TO THE SON AND BELIEVES IN HIM SHALL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE, AND I WILL RAISE HIM UP AT THE LAST DAY”. And in his prayer to the Father, Jesus Christ testified: “While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled” (John 17:12).

Based on scripture, I want to assure you that you are very secure and safe in the hands of Jesus Christ. YOUR LIFE, AS A BELIEVER, IS NOW HIDDEN WITH CHRIST IN GOD (Colossians 3:3). That is DOUBLE SECURITY. Therefore, FEAR NOT!

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

Do you entertain doubts about your security in Jesus Christ? Does the fear of the unknown, the activities of wicked people, the news of wars, etc. make you feel unsecured?

PRAYER:

Father, your word assures me that you are able to keep that which I have committed into your hands. When I am afraid and doubt your words, please speak into my heart to re-assure me that all is well with my spirit, soul and body. Amen!

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

DAILY word study: LOST

The word "lost" comes from the Greek term apollymi (ἀπόλλυμι), meaning to perish, destroy, or be ruined. In this context, it refers to the spiritual safety and protection of believers, emphasizing that none will be destroyed or taken away from Christ.

In John 18:9, Jesus affirms that none of His disciples were lost except Judas, fulfilling Scripture. This reflects His care in preserving the spiritual well-being of those entrusted to Him. It highlights Jesus’ role as the Shepherd who protects His flock, ensuring that they remain safe and secure in His care.

The word "lost" emphasizes the eternal security of believers in Christ. It reassures us that once we are in His hands, no power, circumstance, or enemy can snatch us away. This security gives believers the confidence to trust that, despite life’s trials, our salvation and relationship with Christ are secure.

Reflections:

Do you ever doubt your security in Christ? Are there fears or anxieties that make you question whether you are truly safe in His care? Remember, Christ promises that He will not lose anyone entrusted to Him—your security is anchored in Him.
