KEY VERSE: “Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God.” (Romans 1:1, ESV)
MESSAGE:
In the verse under discussion, Paul presents a life shaped by divine calling. He was a servant of Christ Jesus, and in that service, God appointed him to a specific role as an apostle.
This calling gave direction to his life. Paul was a messenger proclaiming the message of Christ. He saw himself as part of the particular group Christ called and gifted to represent Him, as seen in 1 Corinthians 12:28, Galatians 1:1, and Ephesians 4:11.
Furthermore, Ephesians 2:19–20 shows that the apostles and prophets formed part of the foundation for the building of the household of God. This was a profound position and a sacred trust.
Acts 9:1–19 makes clear that Paul had a life-changing encounter with the risen Lord Jesus Christ. In that encounter, he became aware of God’s agenda for his life. The Lord arrested his path, redirected his passion, and placed him in the service of the gospel. Paul’s assertions in 2 Timothy 4:6–8 make clear that he fulfilled his mandate. He fought the good fight. He finished the race. He kept the faith.
The life of Paul reminds us that God calls His people with purpose. He gives each one a task. The grace that calls also enables the called to fulfil the assignment.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
God has a specific task for each of His people. Stay on course with what He has placed before you. If you have strayed, return to Him. God’s purposes are never thwarted.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus Christ, help Your people to stay on course and fulfil our specific tasks. Please bring back those who have strayed, no matter how far they have gone. Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!
The 365 DAILY BIBLE READING
DAILY word study: CALLED
Klētos is the Greek word translated “called.” It comes from the verb kaleō, which means to call, summon, or invite.
In Romans 1:1, Paul uses this word to show that his apostleship came from God’s initiative. He did not appoint himself. God summoned him into a sacred task.
This calling gave Paul’s life direction. He was set apart for the gospel and sent to proclaim Christ. His encounter with the risen Lord in Acts 9 became the turning point that placed him on God’s agenda for his life.
Reflect on this:
God still calls His people into purposeful service. Your task may differ from Paul’s, yet your life also matters in God’s hands. Ask the Lord for grace to know your assignment, stay on course, and fulfil what He has placed before you.
