KEY VERSE: “First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world.” (Romans 1:8, ESV)
MESSAGE:
A thankful heart notices the work of God in others. As Paul writes to the believers in Rome, he begins with thanksgiving. This was a common feature of his letters to the churches, and here his gratitude is stirred by the news that their faith in Christ was being widely spoken of.
Paul’s thanksgiving is offered to God through the Lord Jesus Christ. This matters because every grace we receive comes through Christ. He stands at the centre of our access to God and shapes our relationship with one another. Through Him, even our thanksgiving is lifted to God with deeper meaning and greater assurance.
Paul’s commendation was not rooted in personal attachment. The Roman church had not been established by him, yet he still rejoiced in what God was doing among them and gave thanks for it. This teaches us to recognise the gracious work of God in others and to respond with humble gratitude.
The basis of Paul’s thanksgiving also deserves our attention. He gave thanks for their faith in Christ, and that faith was being reported throughout the world. A church’s faith can speak beyond its own gathering, and a believer’s faith can encourage others beyond personal circles. We should therefore pray that our faith, our churches, and our witness will be visible, fruitful, and glorifying to God.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Look for evidence of God’s grace in others and thank Him for it. Commend what is good when you see faith, faithfulness, service, growth, or commitment in another believer or church. Pray that your faith, your church, and your witness will become visible, fruitful, and encouraging to others, so that the gospel will spread and God will be glorified.
PRAYER:
Lord, please revive Your work among us. Let our faith in Christ become visible, fruitful, and encouraging to others. May our lives and churches bring glory to Your name. Amen. THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!
The 365 DAILY BIBLE READING
DAILY word study: PROCLAIMED Katangellō is the Greek word behind “proclaimed.” It means to announce, report, make known, or declare openly.
In Romans 1:8, Paul thanks God because the faith of the Roman believers was being proclaimed in all the world. Their faith had become visible enough for others to speak about it. Paul does not praise them for noise or activity. He thanks God for faith in Christ that carried a public witness.
Reflect on this:
Faith in Christ should be seen, heard, and felt through the life of the believer. Ask God to make your faith visible in your words, conduct, service, and witness, so that others will have reason to thank Him.
