The Chain of Mission —III: Faith Comes by Hearing
Rev. Tetteh-Annor Larbi | Sunday, October 11, 2026 | Romans 10:17

KEY VERSE: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” — Romans 10:17 (KJV)
MESSAGE:
In Romans 10:16, Paul acknowledges the sobering reality that not everyone who hears the Gospel will accept it. Yet he does not allow rejection to have the final word. In today’s key verse, he reminds us why the message must still be proclaimed: faith comes through hearing, and what must be heard is the message concerning Christ.
Faith is not manufactured by willpower or emotion. It comes as people hear the Gospel and respond to the truth about Jesus Christ. This is why the chain of mission matters. Someone is sent, the message is proclaimed, people hear, and through that hearing, faith can arise. This also tells us something about the message we carry. People do not simply need inspiring words, religious advice, or our personal opinions. They need to hear about Christ. The Gospel announces who He is, what He has done, and the salvation God offers through Him.
The messenger also needs to remain rooted in that message. We speak most faithfully when the Gospel continues to shape our own hearts. We cannot treat the message of Christ as something we once received and then moved beyond. The truth that brought us to faith must continue to deepen our trust in Him.
Romans 10:17 therefore gives both urgency and confidence to Gospel witness. We keep speaking because hearing matters. We keep proclaiming Christ because God uses the Gospel message to bring people to faith.
Rejection must not silence the message.
Someone still needs to hear.
And faith still comes by hearing.
FEET AND HANDS OF THE MESSAGE:
Keep the Gospel of Christ clear in your own heart. Listen carefully to its truth, remain grounded in it, and be ready to speak about Christ when God gives you the opportunity.
PRAYER:
Lord, keep the Gospel of Christ clear in my heart. Strengthen my faith through Your truth and help me speak that message faithfully so others may hear and believe. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

DAILY word study: HEARING The Greek term translated as “hearing” is akoē (ἀκοή), pronounced ah-ko-AY. In context, it can also carry the sense of a received report or message received.
In Romans 10:17, Paul connects faith with the Gospel being proclaimed and received. The same term appears in the previous verse when Isaiah asks, “Who has believed our report?” The connection is striking: the message must be proclaimed so that it can be heard and believed.
Paul is concerned with more than sound reaching the ear. What matters is encountering the message about Christ through its proclamation.
Reflect on This:
How are you responding to the message about Christ that you hear?
