The Rare Courage to Die for Another

Rev. Tetteh-Annor Larbi | Saturday, July 18, 2026 | Romans 5:7–8

KEY VERSE: “For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die.”_ (Romans 5:7, NKJV)

MESSAGE:

Paul draws our attention to the rarity of voluntary sacrifice. A person may deeply respect someone who is righteous or generous, yet few would willingly surrender their life for that person. Such courage demands extraordinary love, commitment, and selflessness.

Romans 5:7 helps us recognise the weight of sacrifice. Even the highest examples of human devotion remain uncommon. Paul uses this truth to prepare our hearts for the greater wonder revealed in the next verse. Christ’s death displays a depth of love that reaches beyond ordinary human experience and carries the saving purpose only He could fulfil.

Those who receive Christ’s love should grow in compassion and generosity. We may never be called to surrender our physical lives, yet we can offer time, attention, comfort, forgiveness, resources, and practical care. Sacrificial love serves others with wisdom, truth, humility, and genuine concern. It reflects Christ when we willingly give something valuable to strengthen another person.

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

Ask yourself: How far does your love extend? Identify one person who needs your time, encouragement, forgiveness, or practical support. Choose one meaningful sacrifice you can make today. Serve with wisdom and humility, and let your actions reflect the love of Christ.

PRAYER:

Father, thank You for showing me the meaning of sacrificial love. Deliver me from selfishness and conditional care. Form compassion, humility, courage, and generosity within me. Teach me to serve others with wisdom and genuine concern. Help me give my time, attention, and resources in ways that honour You. May my actions point others to You, for Your name’s sake. Amen.

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

The 365 DAILY BIBLE READING

DAILY word study: DARE The word translated “dare” comes from the Greek word tolmaō. It means to act boldly, to take courage, or to undertake something difficult despite the risk involved.

Biblical courage is not reckless action. It is a deliberate willingness to move toward another person’s need when love requires personal cost.

This kind of courage may involve speaking up, giving time, surrendering comfort, or accepting inconvenience. Sacrificial love becomes visible when compassion moves beyond feeling and takes responsible action.

Reflect on this:

Where is love asking you to act with courage today?
