The Restoration of Israel
Rev. (Rtd.) Osei Kwabena Nkrahene | Sunday, October 18, 2026 | Romans 11:25–32

KEY VERSE: “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” — Romans 11:29 (ESV)
MESSAGE:
God’s purposes do not disappear because we cannot yet see their fulfilment. Paul now brings his discussion of Israel to a close by revealing a mystery. A partial hardening has come upon Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. Israel’s present unbelief is therefore not the final word on God’s dealings with them.
Paul speaks elsewhere about truths once hidden and later revealed. Romans 16:25 describes the gospel as a mystery kept secret for long ages but now made known. Here in Romans 11, the mystery is specific. God is still working out His saving purposes concerning both Israel and the Gentiles, and He determines how and when those purposes unfold.
Scripture repeatedly shows that God works according to His appointed purposes. Galatians 4:4 tells us that Christ came “when the fullness of time had come.” In Genesis 17, Abraham pleaded concerning Ishmael, but God maintained His declared covenant purpose concerning Isaac. Human preference does not overturn what God has determined. This is why Romans 11:29 is so significant: “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” God has not cancelled His calling or abandoned His covenant purposes concerning Israel.
Paul finally brings both Jew and Gentile to the same humbling ground. Verse 32 reminds us that all have been bound over to disobedience so that God may show mercy. No group therefore has grounds for pride. Our salvation rests on God’s mercy. His faithfulness should make us hopeful, and His mercy should make us humble.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Do not write off people whom God may still be drawing. Trust His purposes even when you cannot see how they will unfold. Remain grateful for His mercy, and let that mercy shape the way you hope, pray, and relate to others.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus Christ, help me to trust God’s purposes and timing. Keep me humble, grateful for Your mercy, and hopeful about those whom You are still drawing to Yourself. Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

DAILY word study: IRREVOCABLE The Greek word is ametamelētos (ἀμεταμέλητος), pronounced ah-meh-tah-MEH-lay-tos. It means not regretted, not withdrawn, or not taken back.
In Romans 11:29, Paul is speaking about God’s covenant purposes concerning Israel. Their present unbelief does not mean that God has changed His mind or abandoned what He has purposed.
Ametamelētos points to the firmness of God’s commitment. His faithfulness does not depend on changing human circumstances. What God has determined according to His purpose remains under His sovereign care.
Reflect on This:
When God’s purposes seem delayed or unclear, do you still trust that He remains faithful to what He has promised?
