Rev. Enoch Nii Narh Thompson | November 5, 2026 | Romans 13:11

KEY VERSE: “And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.” Romans 13:11 NIV

MESSAGE:

The second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is a matter of great importance and urgency for every Christian. In Romans 13:11, Paul urges believers to recognise the urgency of the times and awaken from spiritual complacency. Christians are not meant to live carelessly or half-heartedly. Each passing day brings us closer to the fulfilment of God's redemptive plan and Christ's return.

Spiritual sleep can take many forms, including neglecting prayer, indifference to God's Word, compromising with sin, or lacking concern for God's kingdom. Such attitudes weaken our witness and hinder our growth. Paul calls believers to wake up and live with spiritual alertness, purpose, and readiness. His instruction follows the command to love one another, reminding us that spiritual alertness should also be reflected in how we treat and serve others.

God has given us the present moment as an opportunity to serve Him faithfully. Instead of drifting through life, we are called to live intentionally, making the most of every opportunity to glorify God, share the Gospel, and grow in holiness. A believer who understands the times will remain watchful, diligent, and committed to Christ.

The closer we draw to the day of Christ's return, the more urgent our obedience should become. Paul's reminder that our salvation is nearer points to the future completion of God's saving work when Christ returns. This calls us to live faithfully and purposefully as we anticipate the fulfilment of God's promises.

Spiritual alertness enables believers to live faithfully as we anticipate God's unfolding purposes. It calls us to examine our spiritual lives, identify areas where we may have become complacent, and renew our commitment to prayer, Bible study, worship, and faithful service to God.

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

Set aside time today for prayer and reflection on God's Word. Identify one area of spiritual complacency that needs renewed attention. Encourage another believer in their walk with Christ and pursue opportunities to serve God with renewed passion and commitment.

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, awaken my heart to the urgency of the times and guard me from spiritual complacency. Help me to live each day with purpose, devotion, and readiness for Your coming kingdom. Strengthen me to serve You faithfully and to make the most of every opportunity for Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSINGS.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

The 365 DAILY BIBLE READING

Day 309 Luke 4–6 — Jesus Begins His Ministry and Teaches Kingdom Living

DAILY word study: SLEEP The Greek word hypnos means sleep. In this passage, Paul uses sleep to describe spiritual inactivity or a lack of alertness to God's call.

Paul urges believers to recognise the significance of the present time. Spiritual slumber can develop when we pay less attention to prayer, God's Word, and obedience receive less attention in our lives.

The call to awaken reminds us to renew our devotion to Christ and live faithfully as we anticipate His return.

Love gives practical expression to what God requires of you in your relationships.

Reflect on this:

What area of your spiritual life needs renewed attention today?
