You Must Believe in Jesus Christ

Rev. Enoch Thompson | February 21, 2024 | John 3:14-18

KEY VERSE:

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (NIV)

MESSAGE:

Clear-minded business-like thinking has objectives and goals for every investment and all operations. God is the Master-Investor, and in showing His love to us through the giving of the Lord Jesus Christ, He desired and required that we would put our faith in Christ and what He did on the cross.

Faith in God may be a general religious expression, but we must reduce the concept of faith to a particular reference to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He was the self-revelation of God in human form who lived a sinless life, taught heavenly and earthly truths, and exercised the power of God over spirits, nature, sickness, and death. His death and resurrection showed Him to be the Son of God (Rom. 1:4).

You must believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, not only as dead and resurrected, but also as alive and well, and soon to return to take His Church from this sin-sick world. You must believe and look forward to the great future of His eternal Kingdom in which we shall live as beneficiaries of His great grace, mercy, and love when we shall worship Him eternally as King of kings and Lord of lords. You must believe in Jesus Christ as your Saviour and make Him your Lord!

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

You may believe in God, but has your religious faith arrived at faith in Jesus Christ? Settle this matter. It has consequences for life and beyond death.

PRAYER:

Dear Lord Jesus, I believe in you for all you mean and stand for. Please help me to live a life that reflects you living through me. For your dear Name’s sake, Amen.

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

DAILY word study: BELIEVES

In Greek, the word used for "believes" in John 3:16 is "πιστεύω" (pisteuó), which means to have faith, trust, or confidence in. This word is derived from "pistis," which means faith or trust.

other Biblical usage of the word can be found in

  • John 1:12 (NIV) - "Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God."

  • Acts 16:31 (NIV) - "They replied, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.'"

Believing in Jesus is more than just acknowledging His existence; it involves entrusting our lives to Him, relying on His promises, and surrendering to His lordship. It is an active and ongoing commitment to follow Jesus and His teachings.

In the context of John 3:16, believing in Jesus is the key to receiving eternal life. This belief signifies a deep, personal trust in Jesus as the Savior and the Son of God. It involves acknowledging our need for salvation and accepting Jesus' sacrificial death on the cross as a means of reconciliation with God.

Reflections:

How does your understanding of what it means to believe in Jesus impact the way you live your life and the decisions you make daily?
