A Living Sacrifice: God Demands Our Total Surrender
Rev. Charles Oppong-Poku | Tuesday, October 20, 2026 | Romans 12:1–2

KEY VERSE: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” — Romans 12:1 (NIV)
MESSAGE:
The Christian life is a response to God’s mercy, calling us to surrender our entire lives to Him. Paul’s “therefore” in Romans 12:1 connects God’s grace with our responsibility to live for Him. Our total surrender is a grateful response to the mercy we have already received through Jesus Christ.
Total surrender is motivated by God’s mercy, demonstrated through Christ’s sacrifice for our sins. Paul appeals to believers “in view of God’s mercy.” Having received His love and salvation, we are called to wholehearted devotion, offering our lives in grateful response to all He has done for us.
Paul commands believers to offer their bodies as “a living sacrifice.” This means placing every area of our lives at God’s disposal—our minds, ambitions, time, talents, relationships, possessions, and decisions. God calls us to surrender every area of our lives to Him. Our commitment includes our church life, religious activities, and daily living. A living sacrifice is a believer who continually chooses to belong to God and live for His glory.
Total surrender is the essence of true worship. Worship includes singing and church activities and is expressed in daily living marked by holiness and obedience. It is the daily presentation of our lives to God. When our choices, attitudes, relationships, and service honour God, our lives become a pleasing offering to Him. Because God deserves our wholehearted devotion, He calls us to surrender every area of our lives to Him.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Examine your life and identify any area you are unwilling to surrender to God. Dedicate your time, talents, resources, ambitions, and relationships to His service. Make your daily life, both inside and outside the church, an expression of genuine worship.
PRAYER:
Merciful Father, thank You for Your abundant grace and mercy revealed through Jesus Christ. Forgive me for the times I have held areas of my life back from You. Today, I surrender my whole self to You—my thoughts, ambitions, time, talents, relationships, possessions, and future. Help me to make my life a living sacrifice that pleases You. May everything I do bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

DAILY word study: SACRIFICE
The Greek word is thusia (θυσία), pronounced thoo-SEE-ah. It means an offering presented to God, especially something given to Him as an act of worship.
In Romans 12:1, Paul uses language his readers would associate with worship and offerings. By calling believers a “living sacrifice,” he describes a life consciously presented to God and placed at His disposal. The believer becomes an offering expressed through daily obedience, service, choices, and devotion.
Thusia helps us see that surrender is an act of worship. Every part of life placed at God’s disposal becomes part of our response to His mercy.
Reflect on This:
What area of your life needs to be presented fully to God today?
