Be Spiritually Fervent in Your Service
Rev. Charles Oppong-Poku | October 27, 2026 | Romans 12:9–13

KEY VERSE: “Not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.” — Romans 12:11 (NKJV)
MESSAGE:
Christian service calls for diligence, spiritual fervour, and wholehearted devotion to the Lord. Romans 12:11 brings these qualities together and reminds us to approach every responsibility with seriousness and faithfulness because we serve Christ.
Paul first calls believers to diligence. Faithful service requires responsibility, discipline, and attention to what God has placed in our hands. We should carry out our ministry and daily duties carefully, complete what we begin, and honour our commitments. Diligence shows that we value both our calling and the Lord who has entrusted the work to us.
Paul also calls us to be “fervent in spirit.” Spiritual fervour describes a heart that remains alive toward God and responsive to His work. This fervour grows as we pray, spend time in Scripture, share fellowship with other believers, and depend on the Holy Spirit for renewed strength. God sustains us and keeps our hearts engaged in His service through every season.
At the centre of the verse is this simple reminder: we are “serving the Lord.” Whether we serve in church ministry, leadership, the workplace, the home, or through practical care for others, Christ remains the One we serve. Remembering this helps us work with integrity, humility, perseverance, and devotion. Let every assignment become an opportunity to honour the Lord through faithful service.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Complete one responsibility you have delayed. Review how faithfully you are handling the work God has entrusted to you. Strengthen your spiritual fervour through prayer, Scripture, fellowship, and dependence on the Holy Spirit. Approach today’s responsibilities as service offered to Christ.
PRAYER:
Dear God, thank You for the privilege of serving You. Renew my spiritual fervour and strengthen me by Your Holy Spirit. Help me serve with diligence, faithfulness, integrity, and wholehearted devotion. Teach me to approach every responsibility as service offered to Christ. May my life and work bring honour and glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

Day 300 Reading: Matthew 14–17 — Jesus Reveals His Power and Confirms His Identity
DAILY word study: FERVENT The Greek word translated “fervent” is zeō (ζέω), pronounced ZE-OH. It means to boil, be hot, or burn with intensity. Figuratively, it describes being deeply earnest, enthusiastic, and spiritually engaged.
In Romans 12:11, Paul uses this vivid word to describe the spirit in which believers should serve the Lord. Our hearts should remain alive toward God, responsive to His leading, and engaged in the work He has entrusted to us.
Zeō gives us the picture of something kept warm and active. Spiritual fervour needs nurturing. Prayer, Scripture, fellowship, and dependence on the Holy Spirit help keep our hearts responsive to God and ready for faithful service.
Reflect on This:
What is helping your heart remain spiritually alive as you serve the Lord?
