Honour Others Above Yourself

Rev. Charles Oppong-Poku | Monday, October 26, 2026 | Romans 12:9–13

KEY VERSE: “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honour giving preference to one another.”_ — Romans 12:10 (NKJV)

MESSAGE:

One of the clearest expressions of sincere love is how we honour others. Romans 12:10 calls believers to show brotherly affection and honour one another. A heart shaped by Christ recognises others' dignity, values their contributions, and willingly shows respect through words, attitudes, and actions.

Paul describes the Church as a spiritual family where brotherly love should shape relationships. This love is expressed through sincere care, kindness, encouragement, support, and compassion. It celebrates others' progress, stands with them in difficult times, and helps create relationships where people feel valued and cared for.

Honouring others means recognising each person's God-given dignity. Age, position, wealth, education, or ministry title should never determine the respect we show. When we appreciate others' contributions and treat them with dignity, our relationships reflect the humility and love of Christ.

Paul also calls believers to take the initiative in giving honour. We can do this by listening attentively, expressing appreciation, acknowledging others' contributions, and celebrating their achievements. A community grows stronger when its members willingly honour one another and help preserve unity through love.

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

Show genuine care and affection to someone today. Identify one person whose contribution you may have overlooked and express sincere appreciation. Give people your full attention when they speak. Treat others with dignity and respect in your words and actions.

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, help me love and honour others sincerely. Give me a humble heart that values people, celebrates their progress, and recognises their contributions. Teach me to treat others with dignity, kindness, and respect. May my relationships reflect the love of Christ, strengthen the unity of Your Church, and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

The 365 DAILY BIBLE READING

Day 299 Reading: Matthew 10–13 — Jesus Sends His Disciples and Reveals the Kingdom

DAILY word study: HONOUR What does Paul mean by “in honour giving preference to one another” in Romans 12:10?

The Greek word is timē (τιμή), pronounced tee-MAY. It means honour, value, respect, or esteem. It can also mean recognising someone's worth or value.

In Romans 12:10, Paul calls believers to recognise the value of others and willingly show them respect. Honour becomes visible when we listen attentively, appreciate people, acknowledge their contributions, and treat them with dignity.

Timē reminds us that honour begins with how we value people. When you recognise another person’s God-given dignity, your words, attention, and actions begin to reflect that value.

Reflect on This:

Whose contribution can you recognise and honour today?
