One Body, Many Members, Different Functions
Rev. Charles Oppong-Poku | Friday, October 23, 2026 | Romans 12:4–8

KEY VERSE:
“For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function.” — Romans 12:4 (NKJV)
MESSAGE:
Having called believers to humility and a sober self-assessment, Paul now shows how that humility should shape life in the Church. He uses the human body as a picture of believers who belong to Christ and serve together, each with different functions. God brings us together as one body for His purpose.
The Church is one body united in Christ. Believers come from different backgrounds, have different personalities, and carry different responsibilities, yet we share one identity in Him. This shared belonging should shape the way we relate to one another and strengthen our commitment to unity.
Just as the parts of the human body perform different functions, believers also have different responsibilities within the body of Christ. Each person has a place and a contribution to make. Recognising this helps us serve faithfully and respect the work God is doing through others.
The body functions well when its members work together. The contribution of each believer supports the life and ministry of the whole Church. As we value one another, fulfil our responsibilities, and cooperate in service, the body of Christ grows stronger and reflects God’s purpose more clearly.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Recognise the place God has given you within the body of Christ. Serve faithfully in your area of responsibility. Respect and appreciate the contributions of fellow believers. Work together with others to strengthen the Church and fulfil God’s purpose.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, thank You for making us members of one body in Christ. Help me understand and faithfully fulfil my place in Your Church. Teach me to value the contributions of fellow believers and to work with them in unity. May our service together strengthen the body of Christ and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

DAILY word study: FUNCTION The Greek word for Function is praxis (πρᾶξις), pronounced PRAK-sis. It means action, activity, practice, or a particular function someone carries out.
In Romans 12:4, Paul uses the human body to show that believers belong together while carrying different responsibilities. Each member contributes through the function God has given within the body of Christ.
Praxis points to active participation. You express your place in the body of Christ through faithful service. As each believer fulfils their responsibility, the whole body is strengthened.
Reflect on This:
What responsibility has God placed before you within the body of Christ, and how faithfully are you fulfilling it today?
