KEY VERSE: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes,. . . ,” (Romans 1:16, ESV)
MESSAGE:
There are moments when a believer may feel the temptation to hide his faith or keep quiet about Christ. The Lord Jesus warned against being ashamed of Him in Mark 8:38. Paul also commended the household of Onesiphorus for not being ashamed of his chains. These passages show that shame can become a real issue in our walk with God.
Being ashamed often grows from the way people speak about the faith and its followers. Paul knew that the message of Christ crucified was considered foolishness by some. The early Church also faced mockery, contempt, and accusation. In Acts 11:26, the name Christian, which we now carry with pride, may have first been used as a tag of contempt. Yet the Gospel kept advancing.
This makes Paul’s words in Romans 1:16 all the more powerful: “I am not ashamed of the gospel.” His confidence came from the nature of the Gospel itself. It is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. It reveals God's righteousness and calls people to live by faith. In a world where people suppress the truth and lose their way in human thinking, the Gospel remains God’s saving answer.
The believers in Acts were made bold by their encounter with the Holy Spirit. Some confessed their evil practices openly. Others prayed for boldness to keep speaking, as seen in Acts 4:23–31. God also encouraged His servants to continue speaking with courage and conviction. Being ashamed is not in the equation. The modern world gives us countless channels and opportunities to witness for Christ with courage, wisdom, and faithfulness.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Reflect on what weakens your witness for Christ. Is it fear, ridicule, rejection, silence, comfort, or the desire to fit in? Ask the Holy Spirit for boldness. Use one opportunity today to point someone to Christ through your words, attitude, kindness, testimony, or social media platform.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus Christ, help us to be true to the task of witnessing for You. Remove fear and shame from our hearts. Fill us with the boldness of the Holy Spirit, and help us proclaim the Gospel with wisdom, love, and faithfulness. Amen. THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.
SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!
The 365 DAILY BIBLE READING
DAILY word study: ASHAMED In Romans 1:16, Paul says, “I am not ashamed of the gospel.”
The Greek word is epaischynomai. It means to feel shame, disgrace, or embarrassment about someone or something. It can also carry the idea of drawing back because of fear of public opinion.
Paul knew the Gospel attracted opposition, mockery, and misunderstanding. Yet he spoke with confidence because he knew what the Gospel carries. It is the power of God for salvation. His boldness came from conviction. The Gospel reveals God’s righteousness, calls people to faith, and brings salvation to everyone who believes.
Reflect on this:
Ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart. What makes you quiet about Christ?
Let God remove fear, hesitation, and shame. Speak about Jesus with wisdom, love, and courage.
