The Indwelling Spirit - A Guarantee Future Resurrection

Rev. Charles Oppong-Poku | Monday, September 7, 2026 | Romans 8:9–11

KEY VERSE: “If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” — Romans 8:11

MESSAGE:

Paul connects the believer’s present experience of the indwelling Spirit with the future hope of resurrection. The Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead now dwells in the believer. His presence assures us that, just as God raised Christ, He will also give life to our mortal bodies. The resurrection of Christ is the foundation of our confidence: the God who raised Jesus has the power to raise us as well.

The indwelling Spirit is God’s guarantee of future resurrection. Our present bodies remain mortal and are subject to weakness, ageing, suffering, and death. Yet death is not the end for those who are in Christ Jesus. Paul declares that God will give life to our mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in us. The Spirit’s indwelling is therefore a divine assurance that our bodies will be raised when Christ returns.

The promise of future resurrection is not meant to make us passive in the present. It gives us strength to live faithfully today. Because our future is secure in Christ, we can resist sin, endure suffering, serve God faithfully, and remain steadfast even when circumstances are difficult. We live with the confidence that death does not have the final word.

FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:

If you have trusted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, live today as one whose future is secure. Depend on the Holy Spirit for strength, honour God with your body and remain faithful through every difficulty as you await Christ’s return and the resurrection.

PRAYER:

Lord, thank You for Your Spirit, who dwells in me and assures me of the future resurrection. Strengthen me to resist sin, endure trials, and honour You with my body as I await Christ’s return. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!!

Day 250 Jeremiah 9–12 — Know the Lord and Walk in His Covenant

DAILY word study: MORTAL  The word “mortal” is translated from the Greek thnētos, meaning “subject to death.”

Romans 8:11 acknowledges that our present bodies are temporary. Yet the Spirit’s presence assures believers that God will raise and transform these mortal bodies.

Reflect: How does the promise of resurrection strengthen your hope?
