KEY VERSE: “You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit… Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him.”_ — Romans 8:9, ESV
MESSAGE:
After describing the mind controlled by the flesh in verses 7–8, Paul turns to those who belong to Christ. He declares that believers are no longer in the realm of the flesh but in the Spirit because the Holy Spirit dwells in them. His indwelling presence identifies them as belonging to Jesus Christ.
Paul’s words describe the believer’s new position and relationship with God: “You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit.” Christians may still struggle with temptation and sin, but the fallen nature no longer has rightful control over their lives. They now belong to Christ and have received the Holy Spirit as the source of new life. They are therefore called to live according to this new identity.
The Spirit of God dwelling within us is God’s gracious and continuing presence in every believer. He teaches, guides, convicts, strengthens and transforms us. Through His work, we understand God’s truth, recognise what displeases Him and receive strength to obey Jesus Christ. The Christian life cannot be lived through human determination alone; it is lived through dependence on the Spirit’s empowering presence.
Paul therefore makes a searching declaration: “Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him.” Christianity involves more than church membership, participation in worship or knowledge of Christian teachings. It is a living relationship with Christ, made possible by grace and marked by the presence of His Spirit. As we yield to the Spirit, His transforming work becomes increasingly visible in our character, relationships, and choices. The Spirit within us assures us that we belong to Christ and enables us to live as His people.
FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE:
Live consciously today as someone who belongs to Christ. Surrender any thought, attitude, relationship or practice that is inconsistent with His character. Remain attentive to the Holy Spirit’s conviction and guidance, and depend on Him to reflect Christ in your decisions, relationships and service.
PRAYER:
Father, thank You for giving me Your Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ. Help me to live with the awareness that Your Spirit dwells within me. Take control of my thoughts, desires, attitudes and actions, and continually transform me into the likeness of Christ. May my life clearly demonstrate that I belong to Jesus. In His name, Amen.
THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING.

Day 248 Jeremiah 1–4 — Called to Speak God’s Word to a Wandering People
DAILY word study: DWELLS “Dwells” is translated from the Greek word oikeō, meaning “to live in,” “inhabit” or “make one’s home.”
In Romans 8:9, Paul uses this word to describe the Spirit’s abiding presence within every believer. The Holy Spirit lives within us, shaping our character and enabling us to live as people who belong to Christ.
Reflect on this:
How is the Spirit’s presence becoming visible in your attitudes, decisions and relationships?
