- Prevent Negative Prophecies from Coming to Pass
Rev. Tse Amable | October 13 2024 | John 18:25-27 KEY VERSE: “Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow.” John 18:27 (NIV) MESSAGE: Earlier in John chapter 13 when Jesus Christ was preparing his disciples for his imminent crucifixion and death, Simon Peter, in a show of loyalty and commitment swore that he would lay down his life for Jesus Christ (John 13:37). But the Lord who knows the end from the beginning told Simon Peter “ I tell you the truth, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!” (John 13:38). According to St. Matthew, instead of Simon Peter praying and asking for help to prevent the prediction from coming to pass, he continued pledging his unflinching loyalty to his Master (Matthew 26:35). In earlier passages, we have seen Simon Peter denying that he was a disciple of Jesus Christ. Today’s key verse is the confirmation of the third time Simon Peter denied Jesus Christ and just as the Lord predicted, the cock (rooster) began to crow. Simon Peter could have prevented this if he had stopped trusting in his own strength and asked for help. The Bible says, “ Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind and makes flesh his strength, and whose heart turns away from the LORD” (Jeremiah 17:5). The hymnwriter took inspiration from that verse and wrote, “ The arm of flesh will fail you, you dare not trust your own ”. You can prevent negative prophecies concerning yourself, your family, church or nation by doing something about it immediately. King Hezekiah prevented Prophet Isaiah’s prophecy of death by turning immediately to the Lord in prayer (see 2 Kings 20:1-11, Isaiah 38:1-8). Another thing you can do is to repent if the prophecy was a judgment on account of sin. The people of Nineveh prevented Prophet Jonah’s prophecy of destruction by turning whole-heartedly to the Lord in national repentance. YOU CAN DO SOMETHING TO PREVENT A NEGATIVE PROPHECY FROM COMING TO PASS FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE: How do you respond to the Lord’s warning to you either through the reading of the Bible, hearing a sermon or a prophetic message through a genuine prophet? Do you trust in your own strength during temptation, or do you look up to the Lord for strength or the way of escape? PRAYER: Lord, I confess that my spirit is willing to follow you to the end, but my flesh is weak. Please, help me with strength from above and teach me how to come out victorious. Amen! THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING. SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!! DAILY word study : DENIED The word "denied" comes from the Greek word arneomai (ἀρνέομαι), meaning to refuse, reject, or disown. It indicates a conscious decision to distance oneself from an individual or situation. Peter’s third denial of Jesus, as foretold by Jesus Himself, revealed the consequence of relying on one’s own strength rather than seeking divine help. We learn from this the danger of self-reliance during trials. Peter’s failure to pray and draw strength from God led to his denial. Believers are called to humble themselves and seek God’s strength, ensuring that negative prophecies do not become reality. Reflections: Have you ever relied on your own strength during a difficult moment and found yourself falling short? How can you turn to God in prayer to prevent negative outcomes in your life?
- Demand Justice for Yourself and Others
Rev. Tse Amable | October 12 2024 | John 18:19-24 KEY VERSE: “If I said something wrong,” Jesus replied, “testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me ?” John 18:23 (NIV) MESSAGE: We are looking at the trial of Jesus Christ in the court of Annas, the High Priest. After responding respectfully but confidently and courageously to a question he was asked, the Lord was slapped in the face by one of the officials. Jesus Christ did not take this physical abuse kindly and protested. The subject of justice, specifically human rights, is of general concern to people all over the world. Before human beings enacted their laws, Jehovah had already given laws and commandments concerning how people should be treated. Jehovah is very much concerned about how accused people are treated everywhere including in court. Before nations adopted “JUSTICE FOR ALL”, Jehovah had it in his laws. For example, in Exodus 23:6, the Lord commanded “ Do not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits ”. Centuries later, through the mouth of Prophet Amos, Jehovah declared: “ But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” (Amos 5:24) Jehovah wants all people (especially the poor, strangers, and the vulnerable) to be treated fairly and justly, giving them their due respect. Speaking through Prophet Zechariah, the Lord said, “ Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. In your hearts do not think evil of each other ” (Zechariah 7:9-10). As God’s ambassadors on Planet Earth, the church and Christians should play lead roles in the fight for justice. We should register our protests through every legal means at our disposal when the human rights of suspects and accused persons are abused flagrantly and blatantly. We, God’s people, should be seen as champions of fighters for human rights and justice in our countries. Demand and insist on justice for yourself and for everybody. FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE: Does it bother you that suspects and accused persons are shabbily treated by the police and other law-enforcing authorities? What can you do to stop or minimise the physical abuse of alleged criminals? PRAYER: Lord, you are the judge of all flesh. We bring before you people who have been denied justice in the courts and people who are being molested, tortured and denied basic rights. We pray that you will be a swift witness against all those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right. Amen. THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING. SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!! DAILY word study: STRIKE The word "strike" comes from the Greek word plēssō (πλήσσω), meaning to hit, strike, or to wound physically. It conveys the idea of causing harm, whether physically or symbolically, and reflects the act of unjustly attacking someone. In John 18:23, Jesus questions the injustice of being struck for speaking the truth. The strike against Him was not only a physical blow but also a moral and spiritual offence. It highlighted the wrongful treatment He endured for standing by the truth, emphasizing the depth of injustice He faced. What Jesus experienced reminds us that being a champion of truth may come with personal costs. Believers are called to endure these strikes with integrity, knowing that God sees and upholds justice. It also challenges us to avoid striking out against others unfairly, ensuring that we treat others with fairness and dignity. Reflections: How do you respond when faced with unjust treatment? Are you willing to endure opposition for the sake of truth and justice, just as Jesus did?
- Be Wise in How You Spend Your Time
Rev. Tse Amable | October 11 2024 | John 18:15-18 KEY VERSE: “It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm. PETER ALSO WAS STANDING WITH THEM, WARMING HIMSELF.” John 18:18 (NIV) MESSAGE: In our key verse, Apostle Peter did very well in following his Master to the courtroom in the residence of the High Priest. But where he failed was how he spent the time. The scripture says, “ PETER ALSO WAS STANDING WITH THEM, WARMING HIMSELF ”. He was emulating what the people were doing. He forgot the caution of the Master to “ watch and pray so that you will not enter into temptation” (Matthew 26:41) . Maybe, if Simon Peter had spent those hours hiding somewhere, praying and interceding for Jesus Christ, he would not have had the occasion to be tempted to deny his Master. In the popular story of King David and Bathsheba, we read: “ In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king's men and the whole Israelite army. ... BUT DAVID REMAINED IN JERUSALEM” (2 Samuel 11:1). If King David had accompanied his troops to the battlefield, he would have escaped this temptation which led him to commit double sins - adultery and murder. The times we are living in are indeed perilous times which call for vigilance – watchfulness through prayer. One of Apostle Paul’s admonitions to the Ephesians says, “ Be very careful, then, how you live — not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, BECAUSE THE DAYS ARE EVIL ” (Ephesians 5:15-16). Let us heed the warning of the Lord which says, “ WOE TO THEM THAT ARE AT EASE IN ZIO N” (Amos 6:1). Be wise in how you spend your time. FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE: How do you spend your leisure hours? Do you spend them glued to your television, computer, tablet and smartphone watching entertainment content, chatting on social media, etc. or sleeping instead of praying, studying the Bible, listening to recorded sermons, going out on evangelistic outreaches, etc.? PRAYER: Help me, Lord, to watch and pray so that I will not be overtaken by temptation which will lead me to sin against you. I commit my time into your hands. Help me to be a good and faithful steward in how I spend my leisure hours. Amen . THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING. SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!! DAILY word study : WARMING The word "warming" in our key verse comes from the Greek verb θερμαίνω (thermainó) , meaning to warm or heat oneself. It reflects a search for physical comfort and ease, often in the context of difficult circumstances. The act of warming oneself symbolizes the pursuit of temporary comfort at the expense of spiritual vigilance. Just as Peter sought warmth in a dangerous environment, believers today may be tempted to prioritize ease and entertainment over prayer and spiritual discipline. This calls us to examine how we spend our time and whether we are using it wisely, in line with God’s will, or whether we are allowing distractions to lead us away from Him. Reflections Are you using your time wisely, or are you spending it on things that provide temporary comfort but weaken your spiritual vigilance? How can you better prioritize your time for prayer and spiritual growth?
- Live a Life of Transparency and Integrity
Rev. Tse Amable | October 10 2024 | John 18:19-24 KEY VERSE: “ I HAVE SPOKEN OPENLY TO THE WORLD, ” Jesus replied. “I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I SAID NOTHING IN SECRET .” John 18:20 (NIV) MESSAGE: Transparency means not having anything to hide. It implies openness and accountability. To be transparent means people can see through your outward conduct and appearance into your heart (“THE REAL YOU”) in the way people can see your body when you wear transparent (“see-through”) clothing. Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. It implies trustworthiness and incorruptibility to a degree that one is incapable of being false to a trust, responsibility, or pledge. It is a life of probity – tried, tested and proven honesty. Jesus Christ possessed all these qualities. In his own words, he conducted his ministry openly before the world. He never said or did anything in secret besides the hours he spent in solitary places communing with his Father in prayer. Even in his final moments in the Garden of Gethsemane, he was not alone. He was there in the company of Peter, James and John. That appeared to be his custom. When you are a person of integrity and live a transparent life of righteousness, it gives you boldness and confidence. You can respond to any suit filed in court against you, knowing with that your transparency and integrity will be your witness before any judge. You know your innocence is as clear as pure water ( not galamsey water ). It is on account of Jesus Christ’s integrity and transparency that he could confidently address Annas, the High Priest with the words we read in our key verse for today. The Bible says “ the man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out ” (Proverbs 10:9) Live a life of transparency and integrity because it will save you from the false accusations of your adversaries. FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE: Are you living your life in the full glare of the public? Is there anything you have done in the past or you are currently doing which is an open secret – known to all – which can be used against you? PRAYER: Lord, help me to avoid every hidden act of dishonesty. Empower me to live a transparent life so that I can answer any accusation boldly and confidently. Amen! THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING. SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!! DAILY word study: OPENLY The word "openly" is derived from the Greek word parrēsía (παρρησία), which conveys a sense of boldness and unreservedness in speech. It reflects the idea of speaking candidly, without fear of judgment or retribution. Jesus asserts in John 18:20 that He has spoken "openly" to the world, highlighting His willingness to share His message without reservation. This openness not only emphasizes His transparency but also serves to invite genuine engagement from those who hear Him The significance of "openly" extends beyond mere communication; it embodies a lifestyle of authenticity and vulnerability. As believers, embracing this principle challenges us to remove barriers of secrecy in our own lives. When we speak and act transparently, we create spaces for accountability and deeper relationships. This openness reflects God's nature and allows us to be more receptive to His guidance while fostering an environment where others feel safe to share and grow. Reflections: In what ways can you cultivate a spirit of openness in your life? Are there areas where you feel the need to be more transparent, and how can that impact your relationships with others and your relationship with God?
- Be Careful Who You Are Hanging Out With
Rev. Tse Amable | October 9 2024 | John 18:15-18 KEY VERSE: “It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm. PETER ALSO WAS STANDING WITH THEM, WARMING HIMSELF.” John 18:18 (NIV) MESSAGE: The company you choose to spend time with can affect you in many ways. If you are sharing company with bad people, it will corrupt your good morals. It is very easy for you to become who you hang out with. Hanging out with bad people can also expose you to rough handling. When Lot chose to go and live in Sodom and Gomorrah, it exposed him and his family to the nefarious activities of gay (homosexual) people. The Bible says “... that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard ” (2 Peter 2:8). Simon Peter had a bad experience when he chose to share company with the servants and officials of the High Priest, warming himself by the fireside. The first result of Peter joining this group was it provided the opportunity for him to deny his Master. In verse 17, the girl at the door asked Peter “You are not one of his disciples, are you?” He promptly replied, “I am not”. More of those questioning followed later (see John 18:25-27). If Simon Peter had not placed himself in the company of this hostile group, he would have escaped being questioned about his association with Jesus Christ and he would not have had the unfortunate situation to deny the Lord three times. Be careful who you choose to spend time with especially unbelievers. The Bible declares, “ Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers ” (Psalms 1:1). Enjoying the company of unbelievers, if not for the purpose of bringing them to faith in Christ will not be a wise thing to do. Therefore, choose carefully and wisely who you are regularly hanging out with. FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE: What are the effects of staying in the company of unbelievers on your spirit and soul? How do you live as “ salt ” and “ light ” in your association with the people of the world? PRAYER: Lord, teach me how to choose wisely the people I share fellowship with. Your word says I am in the world but not of the world. Please, help me to be committed totally to the principles of the Kingdom of Heaven and not conform to the pattern of this world. Amen. THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING. SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!! DAILY word study: WARMING The word "warming" is translated from the Greek verb θερμαίνω (thermainó), meaning to heat or warm oneself. It implies a need for physical comfort in cold conditions, but also symbolically can suggest a desire for social comfort or blending in. The act of warming oneself symbolizes seeking comfort in the wrong company or dangerous situations. Peter's decision to stay by the fire with those who did not support Jesus shows how easy it is to compromise when we seek comfort among the wrong influences. Believers should be mindful of the environments and associations they allow themselves to be part of, as these can either strengthen or weaken their faith. Reflections How do the people and environments you seek for comfort affect your spiritual journey? Are you staying in situations that compromise your faith, or are you choosing company that helps you grow?
- Your Destiny Helper is at the Door Waiting to Come in
Rev. Tse Amable | October 8 2024 | John 18:15-16 KEY VERSE: “but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, SPOKE TO THE GIRL ON DUTY THERE AND BROUGHT PETER IN.” John 18:16 (NIV) MESSAGE: In our lives on earth, the Lord has prepared and positioned some people who are our destiny helpers. They come into our lives at the right time and help us to fulfil our assignments without much struggle. When Joseph was in prison in Egypt, he met his DESTINY HELPER in the person of PHARAOH’S BUTLER. It was this man who spoke to Pharaoh about Joseph which resulted in the release of Joseph from prison to become the Prime Minister of Egypt (see Genesis 41:9-14). When Moses was a fugitive running away from justice in the wilderness, he met his DESTINY HELPER in the person of RUEL (JETHRO) who took him into his house and even gave one of his daughters to him in marriage (see Exodus 2:15-21). When Jesus Christ was being tried before Annas (the High Priest who played key roles in the execution of Jesus Christ and the persecution of the early church), Simon Peter could not enter the house and had to wait outside. But there was a disciple who was connected – he was known to the High Priest. (“ WHO YOU KNOW ” did not start today.) This unnamed disciple went and spoke to the girl on duty and Simon Peter was promptly allowed to enter the house. There is a DESTINY HELPER prepared and positioned by the Lord to assist you to be where you must be in life, to do and to accomplish your destiny assignment. Relax, wait on the Lord and be sensitive to the leading and promptings of the Holy Spirit. Your destiny helper is at your door and about to enter. You will not miss him or her. FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE: Are you in a place or situation where you need someone who can and must connect you to the person who holds the key to the door you are knocking on? Do you believe that God can bring your destiny helper at the appropriate time? PRAYER: Lord, I need you to help me accomplish what you have destined me to do here on earth. Send my destiny helpers who will give me what I must have or connect me to other destiny helpers. Position me at the right place and at the right time so I can meet my destiny helper. Amen! THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING. SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!! DAILY word study : KNOWN The word "known" is derived from the Greek word γινώσκω ( ginóskó ), which means "to know," "to be aware of," or "to have knowledge of." It implies familiarity, recognition, or having an established relationship with someone. The word "known" reflects how God uses relationships and connections to fulfil His purposes. This implies that being known by the right people at the right time can position believers for divine encounters and opportunities. Just as the disciple was known to the high priest and helped Peter gain access, God places "destiny helpers" in our lives—people who, because of their knowledge or position, can lead us closer to fulfilling our purpose. Reflections: How might the connections you have or the people you know play a role in fulfilling God’s plan for your life? Are you sensitive to how God may be using those relationships to open doors for you?
- Wanted - Vessel to be Used by God
Rev. Tse Amable | October 7 2024 | John 18:11-14 KEY VERSE: Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jews that it would be good if one man died for the people John 18:14 (NIV) MESSAGE: One truth I learnt many years ago says “ human beings are always searching for METHODS to use but the Lord is searching for ONE PERSON To use as a vessel . In Prophet Isaiah’s vision, the cry of the Lord was “ whom shall I send? and who will go for us? ” (Isaiah 6:8). The truth is the Lord preferably uses only pure vessels – vessels washed in the blood of Jesus Christ, filled with the Holy Spirit, are available and willing to be used. But if he does not find his first choice of vessels, he falls on any available vessel. For the pre-determined counsel of God to be fulfilled leading to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, God needed someone to speak the mind of divinity. The available vessel was Caiaphas, and the Lord used him . To speak the mind of God to Balaam, the available vessel was a donkey and the Lord used it (Numbers 22:28). There is a Christian song which has the following lyrics: If You can use anything Lord You can use me Take my hands, Lord and my feet Touch my heart, Lord, and speak THROUGH me If You can use anything Lord You can use me May that be your prayer. Remember, the Lord uses vessels that are available to be used. Let your response to the cry of God be “HERE AM I, USE ME!” FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE: How have you positioned yourself to be used by the Lord as a vessel to accomplish his plans for the world? Will you say only what the Lord puts in your mouth to say? PRAYER: Take my life, Lord, and let it be consecrated to you. Let me be a vessel you work and speak through in and for my generation. Amen. THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING. SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!! DAILY word study: THE ONE The phrase “the one” in our key verse is translated from the Greek word ἕνας (henas) , meaning "one" or "a single one." It highlights an individual chosen or singled out for a specific purpose. The phrase “the one” illustrates how God often works through individuals, whether they are fully aware of His plan or not. In Caiaphas’ case, he was “the one” through whom a pivotal moment in the redemptive story unfolded. This demonstrates that God can choose and use anyone to accomplish His purposes—even those who might not fully grasp the extent of His plans. It reminds us that we, too, can be used as vessels for God’s will if we remain available and open to His guidance. God seeks people willing to be “the one” He can work through to achieve His divine purposes. Reflections Are you ready to be a vessel through which God’s purposes are fulfilled, even when you don’t fully understand the bigger picture?
- Give a Godly Advice
Rev. Tse Amable | October 6 2024 | John 18:11-14 KEY VERSE: Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jews that it would be good if one man died for the people John 18:14 (NIV) MESSAGE: An Ewe proverb says one head cannot give advice or constitute counsellors. The equivalent scripture says “For lack of guidance a nation falls, but many advisers make victory sure” (Proverbs 11:14 NIV). In this life, the Lord has hidden good counsel not in one head but in many counsellors. That is why it is safe and good to seek advice from mature and spirit-led people before you take the first step in implementing any decision. After the arrest of Jesus Christ, he was taken to Caiaphas. Our key scripture tells us that he was the one who had advised the Jews that it was better for one man to die for the nation than for the entire nation to be destroyed. That was a godly advice because it was in line with the pre-determined council of the will of God. In John 11:51-52, we read that Caiaphas “did not give that advice on his own, “but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation, and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one”. Therefore, the advice Caiaphas gave was a GODLY ADVICE because it was prophetic and agreed with the will and plan of God for the salvation of the world. Please note I did not say it was a GOOD ADVICE because a GOOD ADVICE is not always a GODLY ADVICE. Prophet Nathan’s advice to King David about building a temple was a GOOD ADVICE but it was not a GODLY ADVICE- it did not sync with the mind of God. In order for your advice to be described as GODLY, it must agree with the revealed will of God for the situation or the person seeking your advice. To be able to give a GODLY ADVICE, you must know the will of God as revealed in the word of God, be prayerful and be led by the Holy Spirit. FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE: What advice do you give to people who consult you? Is the counsel you give in line with the will of God and/or agree with the word of God, resulting in the Lord being glorified? PRAYER: Lord, I pray that you will teach me and lead me through your word and the Holy Spirit when I have to give an advice in a difficult situation. Amen. THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING. SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!! DAILY word study: ADVISED The word "advised" comes from the Greek word symbouleuō (συμβουλεύω), meaning to counsel, recommend, or give direction. It suggests intentional guidance, often with the well-being of others in mind. In the context "advised" is used in John 18:14, it refers to Caiaphas’ counsel that it was better for one man (Jesus) to die for the people. Although this advice seemed harsh, it aligned with God’s will for the salvation of the world. Caiaphas unknowingly gave prophetic, godly advice that would fulfil the redemptive plan of God. The word "advised" reminds us of the distinction between good advice and godly advice. Godly advice is always aligned with God’s will, revealed through Scripture and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As believers, we are called to ensure that the counsel we give to others aligns with God’s plans and purposes, not just our human understanding. Reflections: When you give advice, is it rooted in God’s word and aligned with His will? Are you prayerful in your approach, seeking God’s guidance before advising others?
- Stop It! You Are Fighting Against God!
Rev. Tse Amable | October 5 2024 | John 18:1-11 KEY VERSE: Jesus commanded Peter, “PUT YOUR SWORD AWAY! SHALL I NOT DRINK THE CUP THE FATHER HAS GIVEN ME?” John 18:11 (NIV) MESSAGE: Loyalty is a good thing. When you have associates and followers who are very loyal to you and your cause and are prepared even to die for you, that is great. But it is not a good thing if your associate or follower is doing something which is against the revealed will of God for you – your life, ministry, cause, etc. This is what the Apostle Peter was doing in this story. You remember earlier when Jesus Christ told his disciples that he was going to Jerusalem where he would be arrested and put to death? On that occasion, the scriptures say Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “ NEVER, LORD !” he said . “ THIS SHALL NEVER HAPPEN TO YOU !” (Matthew 16:22). This did not go down well with Jesus Christ, and he turned and said to Peter, “ GET BEHIND ME, SATAN! YOU ARE A STUMBLING BLOCK TO ME; YOU DO NOT HAVE IN MIND THE THINGS OF GOD, BUT THE THINGS OF MEN .” (Matthew 16:23). It appeared Peter had not understood the message and was still bent on protecting Jesus Christ from arrest by the soldiers. In trying to stand by the earlier vow he made to the Lord (see Matthew 26:33) and to prove his loyalty to his Master, Peter drew his sword and cut off the right ear of the high priest's servant. Jesus Christ knew that even though the contents of the cup were bitter, it was coming from the Father, and he was willing to accept it and drink it. Centuries earlier, Job also knew that his sufferings had the sanction of God and rebuked his wife who advised Job to curse God and die. Job’s rhetorical question to the wife was “Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” Be very careful how you respond to the storms of life so that you do not put yourself in the difficult situation of fighting against God. You can never win. Therefore, submit to the Lord and live. FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE: Are you showing blind loyalty to someone (your pastor, supervisor at work, government official, etc.) in clear contravention of the word of God? Are you prepared to accept any bitter and troubling situation if you know that is the will of God for you? PRAYER: Father, I know that in all situations, you are working for my good. Your plans for me are for good and not for evil. Help me to yield and submit to you. Give me the strength to go through any storm of life you approve for me. Amen! THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING. SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!! DAILY word study : CUP The word "cup" in our key verse comes from the Greek word poterion (ποτήριον), which figuratively represents a person’s fate or portion, especially when it involves suffering or divine judgment. The "cup" symbolizes God’s ordained path, which may include suffering or hardship. Jesus’ acceptance of the cup demonstrates submission to God’s plan, teaching believers that following God’s will sometimes involves painful situations. Jesus fully understood that the cup of suffering was part of the Father’s plan, and He willingly accepted it, rebuking Peter for attempting to prevent His arrest. Like Jesus, we are called to embrace the challenges God allows, trusting that He is working through them for a greater purpose. Reflections: When faced with hardship or difficult decisions, are you willing to accept the "cup" that God has given you? Are there situations in which you’re resisting His will, thinking it might be easier to fight against it?
- You are Secured in the Hand of Jesus Christ
Rev. Tse Amable | October 4 2024 | John 18:1-11 KEY VERSE: This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: “I have not lost one of those you gave me.” John 18:9 (NIV) MESSAGE: One subject which is made abundantly clear in the scriptures is the eternal security of the believer in Jesus Christ. We had glimpses of it in Jehovah’s dealings with the nation of Israel in the Old Testament. Because of his covenant with Abraham and later with David, Jehovah always protected and defended the Israelites, even though he had to punish them some of the times when they transgressed his laws. In the New Testament, we see that the believer in Jesus Christ is safe and secured. The Lord had on several occasions spoken about this truth. For example, in John 10:27-29, he said: “ My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; NO ONE CAN SNATCH THEM OUT OF MY HAND. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; NO ONE CAN SNATCH THEM OUT OF MY FATHER'S HAND ”. Earlier, in John 6:39-40, Jesus Christ declared: “ And this is the will of him who sent me, that I SHALL LOSE NONE OF ALL THAT HE HAS GIVEN ME, BUT RAISE THEM UP AT THE LAST DAY. For my Father's will is that EVERYONE WHO LOOKS TO THE SON AND BELIEVES IN HIM SHALL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE, AND I WILL RAISE HIM UP AT THE LAST DAY ”. And in his prayer to the Father, Jesus Christ testified: “ While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled ” (John 17:12). Based on scripture, I want to assure you that you are very secure and safe in the hands of Jesus Christ. YOUR LIFE, AS A BELIEVER, IS NOW HIDDEN WITH CHRIST IN GOD (Colossians 3:3). That is DOUBLE SECURITY. Therefore, FEAR NOT! FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE: Do you entertain doubts about your security in Jesus Christ? Does the fear of the unknown, the activities of wicked people, the news of wars, etc. make you feel unsecured? PRAYER: Father, your word assures me that you are able to keep that which I have committed into your hands. When I am afraid and doubt your words, please speak into my heart to re-assure me that all is well with my spirit, soul and body. Amen! THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING. SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!! DAILY word study : LOST The word "lost" comes from the Greek term apollymi (ἀπόλλυμι), meaning to perish, destroy, or be ruined. In this context, it refers to the spiritual safety and protection of believers, emphasizing that none will be destroyed or taken away from Christ. In John 18:9, Jesus affirms that none of His disciples were lost except Judas, fulfilling Scripture. This reflects His care in preserving the spiritual well-being of those entrusted to Him. It highlights Jesus’ role as the Shepherd who protects His flock, ensuring that they remain safe and secure in His care. The word "lost" emphasizes the eternal security of believers in Christ. It reassures us that once we are in His hands, no power, circumstance, or enemy can snatch us away. This security gives believers the confidence to trust that, despite life’s trials, our salvation and relationship with Christ are secure. Reflections: Do you ever doubt your security in Christ? Are there fears or anxieties that make you question whether you are truly safe in His care? Remember, Christ promises that He will not lose anyone entrusted to Him—your security is anchored in Him.
- Let Go and Let God
Rev. Tse Amable | October 3 2024 | John 18:1-11 KEY VERSE: “When Jesus said, “I am he,” THEY DREW BACK AND FELL TO THE GROUND.” John 18:6 (NIV) MESSAGE: The life of Jesus Christ is one big example of gentleness and meekness to us. Being God, he had so much power in him, but he never used it to his advantage against the will of the Father. St. Luke recorded that on one occasion, Jesus Christ was taken to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him down the cliff. But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way (see Luke 4:29-30). Here in the Garden of Gethsemane, His presence alone caused the soldiers who had gone to arrest him to fall on the ground. He could have commanded bears to come out and maul them as Prophet Elisha did to the youth who were mocking him (see 2 Kings 2:23-24). Or he could have smitten them with blindness and led them away to another place to be killed just as Prophet Elisha did to the men sent to arrest him (see 2 Kings 6:18-20) But Jesus Christ did not do any of those things. He surrendered himself and allowed the soldiers to arrest him and took him to be tried and condemned to death. HE LET GO AND LET GOD HAVE HIS WAY. That is not how some people behave. If they face a hostile group and believe they can match them pound-for-pound and boot-for-boot, they will not go without a fight. Or if they are connected to the powers that be (a top Government official or a top police or military officer), they will use their connection to show their adversaries where power lies. Jesus Christ, in the story of his arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane, teaches us that when the “storm” coming at us is sanctioned by the Lord, we should “LET GO AND LET GOD”. In other words, yield control and let the Lord have his way. FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE: How do you react when you come unjustifiably under attack? Do you fight back to demonstrate your prowess, or do you surrender, knowing that the Lord knows what is happening and permits it? PRAYER: Father, I bring my difficult situations to you. I am tempted to fight in my own strength but that will not make me the winner that I am supposed to be. Help me as I surrender to you and let you fight my battles. Amen! THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING. SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!! DAILY word study: FELL The word "fell" comes from the Greek term piptō (πίπτω), which means to fall, collapse, or descend. It conveys an involuntary loss of control or power, often in the presence of something or someone greater. The word "fell" underscores the overwhelming presence of Jesus’ divine authority . Even as He surrendered to His arrest, His power was so undeniable that the soldiers fell before Him. It is a reminder that, although we may face situations where we feel powerless, God's presence has the ultimate authority. We can let go and trust in His power, knowing that nothing happens outside of His control. Reflections: How do you respond when faced with challenges that seem out of your control? Do you recognize the authority of Christ in those moments and trust that He holds ultimate power?
- Accept Your Share of Suffering for Jesus Christ
Rev. Tse Amable | October 2 2024 | John 18:1-11 KEY VERSE: “Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, “Who is it you want?” John 18:4 (NIV) MESSAGE: Jesus Christ knew why he left the glories of heaven and came to this wicked world as a human being. He knew he came to offer his life as the Lamb of God and to shed his blood to redeem mankind. He told his disciples that “the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and TO GIVE HIS LIFE AS A RANSOM FOR MANY” (Matthew 20:28). He had advanced knowledge of all that was going to happen to him. When he entered the Garden of Gethsemane that fateful night, he was not running away and trying to avoid arrest. Instead, he went to pray so that the Father would strengthen him to accept that bitter cup of suffering coming and to drink it all. Hence, when the soldiers led by Judas Iscariot entered the garden, Jesus Christ knew the hour had come for what was written about him to be fulfilled - to be crucified. Courageously he stepped out and asked the soldiers “Who is it you want?” Jesus Christ knew he was to suffer so that mankind would be saved and he willingly embraced that painful suffering and death. We live in a generation which considers and teaches that every suffering is to be resisted, seeing it as a lack of faith. But the Bible makes it clear that God allows us to go through some suffering as a means of polishing us just as a goldsmith would polish jewelry through fire. Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy: “Take [with me] YOUR SHARE OF THE HARDSHIPS AND SUFFERING [WHICH YOU ARE CALLED TO ENDURE] as a good (first-class) soldier of Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 2:3 AMP). Don’t run away from the suffering which is in the will of God for you and packaged by the all-knowing God to make you attain his divine nature. FEET AND HANDS FOR THE MESSAGE: What is your reaction to suffering and adversity? Do you know that the Lord can use suffering through trials and tribulations to purify your soul and spirit? PRAYER: Father, I thank you that you know all the trials and tribulations I am going through. Please strengthen me to accept my share of the hardships and sufferings which I am called to endure for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven. THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING. SHOWERS! BLESSINGS!! DAILY word study : WENT OUT The phrase "went out" comes from the Greek verb exerchomai (ἐξέρχομαι), meaning to go forth or to step out. It implies deliberate movement or action toward a particular outcome, often with purpose or intention. "went out" used in our key verse for today's devotional refers to Jesus stepping forward to confront the soldiers who had come to arrest Him. This act reflects Jesus’ courage and willingness to embrace His suffering, knowing it was part of God’s redemptive plan. He did not hide or avoid His fate, but actively took the initiative to meet it. Just as Jesus moved toward His trials with full knowledge, we are called to approach our own difficulties with faith, trusting that God’s greater purpose is at work in our lives. Reflections: How do you respond when faced with trials? Like Jesus, are you able to step forward with trust, knowing that God’s plan includes even the challenges you face?
